“scuppering” …. the new word of the day …. as in “fresh evidence of mass graves at Treblinka, scuppering the claims of Holocaust deniers”

I read this headline today in the Mail Online, a British newspaper:

British archaeologist destroys Holocaust deniers’ argument with mass grave find at Treblinka

The lead of the story is this quote:  “A British forensic archaeologist has unearthed fresh evidence to prove the existence of mass graves at the Nazi death camp Treblinka – scuppering the claims of Holocaust deniers who say it was merely a transit camp.”

I had a third-grade teacher who taught me to look up every word, that I didn’t know the meaning of, in the dictionary.  So I went directly to an online dictionary and learned that “scuppering” can be used to mean destroy or ruin.  I think a better word might be “demolish.”  But have the arguments of the Holocaust deniers been “scuppered?”  I don’t think so.

A lot of good comments about this subject have been posted on my previous blog about the “fresh evidence” at Treblinka here.

This article in the Mail Online states that “a lack of physical evidence in the area has been exploited by Holocaust deniers.”  The whole article seems to me to be gloating over the scuppering of Holocaust deniers, instead of just giving the facts, as a newspaper article should.

Kalman Taigman is mentioned in the Mail Online article as “Survivor Kalman Taigman”  I googled Kalman Taigman and learned that there is a documentary about him and another survivor.

This quote is from a website that gives a synopsis of  the documentary:

The journey of 88 year old Samuel Wilinberg and Kalman Taigman two complete opposite personalities who happen to be the last two survivors of the Treblinka death camp. The film follows the two men as they walk back on the grounds from which they fled 68 years ago. For the first time they go back together possibly for their last visit there. Together they re-live, reminisce, laugh, cry, and even sing the Treblinka anthem. Kalman lost his mother in Treblinka, Samuel lost his two sisters. “God wasn’t present in Treblinka” they both agree on while they are there.

The Mail Online article ends with this quote:

Beginning in March 1942, the SS implemented Sonderaktion 1005 to cover up the murder of millions of people during Aktion Reinhard.

There (sic) actions were so comprehensive that ever since the end of the Second World War, Holocaust deniers have used the site as evidence of misinformation about Nazi genocide.

They claim the site was merely a transit camp – a myth now debunked by the latest discoveries of mass graves.

Memorial stones for the Jews who were sent to Treblinka from Poland and Czechoslovakia

The photo below shows the stone for the city of Sandomierz which is in the section that is farthest from the memorial tombstone. Note the many small stones that have no names. They represent the many villages in Poland where all Jewish life was extinguished in the Holocaust.

  1. This is a very informative post. It’s good that you know so much about the English language and thanks for clearing up the semantics. You have completely FAILED to impart any shred of evidence that activities at Treblinka were not consistent with a death camp and the liquidation of the Warsaw ghetto and a lot more. You have, in fact, solidified the evidence. Your weak argument is invalid. I hope that one day you have an experience that will grant you the opportunity to understand and have empathy for the victims of the Nazis, including Germans, Jews and many others….Next.

    • I don’t understand why you continue to read my blog, since you think that I have FAILED completely and that everything that I write is “invalid.” Your comments have upset me to the point where I am banning you from commenting here. There will be no “Next” time for you. Sorry, but this blog does not allow hateful comments. You have also upset others who have requested that you be banned.

      • I am posting Alan’s final parting shot, after he was banned from commenting here:

Begin quote (Alan’s final comment which I deleted)

I see, so if I challenge you, and you fail to convince me, then you have a problem with me posting here? That makes sense. I like “hanging out here” and I learn a lot during the process of vetting your arguments. I have been polite, and respectful to your “upset others” but the things they write have made me sometimes upset too, but I wouldn’t expect you to ban them. You should not be afraid of me or ban me. I am mealy adding my opinion to your blog and you should be grateful that I spend as much time as I do. You should tell your complaintents to man up, and not be so sensitive. You can’t kill off free speech any more…and I know you’re
not particularly worried about me are you furtherglory?

My IT friends want to take your blog down, and I have been adamant that they must NOT attempt to do so under any circumstances, I believe you have every right to post what you do, as long as you give the community the opportunity to reply and argue, or else this is not an open intelligent forum, in that case you should be shut down…but not by me.

Please also understand, not everything you write is invalid. Just some of it. Please don’t misunderstand. I’m NOT here to troll but to offer an alternative viewpoint. If you can’t handle that, if I have threatened the very fabric of your conscience to the point where you need to ostracise me, well so be it, but there will be others like me to take my place…and you’ll have to live with the idea that you bullied me out, rather than argued your case satisfactorily.
        End quote

  4. 100% agree with you, these are victims, often innocent. No doubt, and they should be mourned and remembered just as much as the Jews, Roma, Homosexuals etc etc countless victims of the nazis, including the German people.

Now, what makes you say the “allied-jewish fiannced bombings” what exactly are you talking about, what is a Jewish financed bomb? You have a paranoid delusion about a world conspiracy yeah? and 911 was an “inside job” and 6M Jews were killed in WW2 so that movies could be made and some books written to discredit the German people and keep them subjugated? Modern day Germany is practically a super power of democracy and freedom. Intelligent thought process, for someone with a mental illness. NEXT…

  5. no, probably not in large transports, but after their ‘re-education’ they may have been. but they were certainly persecuted. FACT.

    Comment by Alan — January 26, 2012 @ 1:06 pm

    • Homosexuality was a criminal offence in the UK until 1967 (22 years after Hitler was dead). We offered one of our greatest war heros the choice of imprisonment or effective chemical castration for the crime of having homosexual sex. FACT.

      • That’s terrible. Thank you for sharing that important bit of information BR.
