Holocaust denier David Irving will be allowed back into Germany

The Mail Online is reporting that David Irving has won a victory in a German court and will be allowed to enter Germany again.  This quote is from an article in The Mail Online:

A Munich court convicted and fined him in 1993 on a charge of insulting the memory of the dead after he disputed that the gas chambers at Auschwitz killed hundreds of thousands of Jews.

He told a group of right-wingers in 1993 that the Polish government built the chambers after the war to ‘show tourists.’

In 1993, when David Irving said that the gas chamber in the main Auschwitz camp was built after the war, to show to tourists, the Auschwitz Museum was telling visitors that the gas chamber in the main camp was original, not a reconstruction.  Now the Auschwitz Museum admits that the gas chamber in the main camp is a reconstruction, so the basis for charging David Irving with a crime for Holocaust denial is now gone.

A poster outside the Auschwitz gas chamber shows the changes made during the reconstruction

When I visited the Auschwitz gas chamber in 1998, I was told that it was original, but when I returned in 2005, I was amazed to see a poster outside, which showed the changes made during the reconstruction.

The photo above shows the poster, which is located outside the gas chamber building in the Auschwitz main camp. On the left, the poster depicts the layout of the gas chamber building as it originally looked and on the right, the way it looked after the gas chamber was reconstructed in 1947.

After he was charged with a crime, under Germany’s Holocaust denial law, and given a fine without a trial, David Irving never entered Germany again because he knew that he would be arrested for not paying his fine.  Now he will be able to go to Germany again to continue his research in the German archives.

Note that David Irving did not get his good name back.  He will always be known as Holocaust Denier David Irving.

Original blueprint of the gas chamber building in the main Auschwitz camp

The photo above shows the original blueprint for the Krema I building in the Auschwitz main camp. The morgue, shown on the bottom right of the blueprint, has a door into the oven room and another door into the washroom. The gas chamber was in the same location as the morgue, but it did not include the area of the washroom. Note the door from the vestibule into the washroom; this door no longer exists and the area of the former wash room is included in the reconstructed gas chamber.

The blueprint for the crematorium at Auschwitz I shows that there were three ovens when the crematorium was in operation. The picture below shows a trolley which is in front of where the third oven used to be, behind the first two and in front of the window on the outside wall. According to the construction plans, the windows were added when the building was converted into an air raid shelter.

The third oven in the original crematorium in the main Auschwitz camp was in this location

Entrance into the Auschwitz crematorium where the victims entered to be gassed to death

The photo above shows the original entrance door into the crematorium building at the Auschwitz main camp. This is the door that tourists now enter to see the gas chamber, and it is the same door that the victims entered. According to the detailed construction plans for the air raid shelter, the windows shown in the photo were added in 1944.   A new door, on the other side of the building, was also added when the building was converted into an air raid shelter for the SS men.

A reader of this blog has put two photos in a comment on this post.

I took the same photo when I was at Auschwitz, but I didn’t include the window behind the ovens, which “The Black Rabbit” shows in his photos.

Ovens in the Auschwitz main camp crematorium

My photo above shows the area behind the ovens where there is a light bulb, but my flash did not pick up a window behind the ovens.  I was focusing on the device in the foreground which was for carrying the bodies on the trolleys that you see in front of the ovens.  I did go behind the ovens, but it never occurred to me to photograph the wall behind me. My photo of the rear of the ovens is shown below.

As for what David Irving now believes, I attended one of his lectures a few years ago, and he said that he now believes that Treblinka was a death camp.  He did not say anything about gassing prisoners in the “bunkers” nor anything about the four gas chambers at the Birkenau camp, which are now in ruins.

  1. David irving has never been a “Holocaust denier”. After reading the Leuchter report he started to claim they were no gas chambers at Auschwitz but he never denied the Holocaust itself. Irving is not a Holocaust historian. He is a Third Reich historian. He always found the Holocaust boring (that’s what he once said). The media and the Holocaust lobby labelled him a Holocaust denier because they couldn’t defeat real Holocaust revisionists like Mattogno, Rudolf, Graf, Faurisson and others. It was a clever trick. Confronting and defeating a fake Holocaust denier on Holocaust stuff enabled the Holocaust lobby to make as if Holocaust revisionism had been defeated by scholars. It was much easier than trying to defeat real Holocaust revisionists on their field. Defeating Irving on Holocaust stuff was like defeating a biologist on chemistry stuff.

Moreover labelling Irving a Holocaust denier really damaged his carreer and reputation. And now he seems ready to say anything in order to be seen as a serious and good historian again.

  2. i don’t know why anyone’s giving this guy’s “further glory” blog any time – he thinks it’s more important students know the melting temperature of Zyklon-B than got driven home the Holocaust was a very bad thing that happened to millions of ordinary human beings – as that is “jewish indoctrinism” apparently. He inflates irrelevent minutae to attempt to weaken Holocaust “orthodoxies”. Pitiful.

  3. I like the poster outside the “gas chamber”. Were the “victims” supposed to go to the “gas chamber” through the Ashes room or through the Crematory room?

The stories about people believing they were going to have a shower (in order to keep them quiet) are ridiculous. If you are packed in a room after seeing crematory ovens, a piece of soap, a towel and fake showerheads won’t make you believe you are going to have a shower and you won’t keep quiet. I can’t believe that.

    • On this page of my website, I have described how the victims PROBABLY entered the gas chamber in the main Auschwitz camp: http://www.scrapbookpages.com/AuschwitzScrapbook/Tour/Auschwitz1/Auschwitz08.html

For over 50 years, tourists were told that the victims entered through a door that was not there until the alleged gas chamber room was converted into a bomb shelter. You can see photos of that entrance on this page of my website: http://www.scrapbookpages.com/AuschwitzScrapbook/Tour/Auschwitz1/Auschwitz07A.html

As you can see, there are problems with the way tourists are now told that the victims entered the gas chamber. Their first view, after going through the door from the outside, was a view of the ovens. This would have caused panic and there would have been pandemonium. Then the victims either had to go through the autopsy room or through the oven room to get into the gas chamber. Either way, it would have been a terrible sight which would have caused a riot.

Also, there was no undressing room. The first problem would have getting the victims to undress outside the building. The gas chamber was not as big as it is now shown because it did not include the room where the toilets were. Yet, it was allegedly used to gas 900 people at a time. After the gassing, there was no way to store the bodies until they could be burned. It would have been several days before the next batch of victims could have been gassed, since there were only three double ovens, where at most, 12 bodies could have been burned at one time.

  4. FG, I’m typing on my Ipod (pernickerty) in a hotel restaurant 4km from Belzec, so please excuse me not attempting to source this right now.

At the Penguin & Lipstadt trial, Irving confirmed, several times, that he accepted gassings occurred in the Bunkers.

I’ll find it in the transcript and email you the necessary links when I get home.

    And also…

This photo (and another in Pressac’s AT&O ) proves there was a door into the crematory and the “original” blueprints in Robert Jan van Pelt’s ‘Auschwitz 1270-Present’ is yet another forgery.

    • Are you using the word “Bunkers” to mean the two little houses at Birkenau? The Little White House and The Little Red House? The word bunker, as used at the concentration camps was the name for the prison inside the concentration camp. I have written about the Dachau bunker on my website at http://www.scrapbookpages.com/DachauScrapbook/KZDachau/Bunker/index.html

David Irving might have said that gassing was done at the Little White House and the Little Red House, meaning that clothing was disinfected in these buildings. I doubt that he said that prisoners were murdered in gas chambers in these little houses.

I don’t quite understand where the door into the oven room at the Auschwitz main camp was located. Apparently, you are saying that the door was converted into a window in 1944, at the same time that two other windows were added.

I am amazed that there is a hotel with a restaurant 4 kilometers from Belzec. I didn’t go there because it was too far out in the boondocks. There was no memorial there in 1998 when I first went to Poland. Apparently, there are enough tourists going there now to warrant a hotel and a restaurant.

      • FG, this hotel has a very impressive indoor pool! There’s another hotel next door and another a km away.

The “death camp” now memorial, Belzec, is on an immensely busy road, which leads to the Ukrainian border, roughly 12km (as the trucks drive) from the memorial. Belzec is not like Treblinka and Sobibor. They still are in very quite, but once (and VERY much still is Sobibor’s case) in “resource” providing (Treblinka’s quarry and Sobibor’s lumber) important places.

Belzec’s memorial is AMAZING. I was at Sobibor yesterday and Treblinka three days ago. Their memorials are simply rubbish in comparison. Belzec is the USHMM and the 2000 stones in Berlin combined. It’s holotastic.

I’ve much film footage, I’ll post a link once I’ve uploaded it in a week or two.

I can’t trawl through the Irving / Lipstadt trial transcript here, but Irvings 5 day questioning on Robert Jan van Pelt on Auschwitz is required reading. But I can and will prove (when I get home) that Irving, at the trial, stated that he accepted gassings of Jews happened in the the little Red and White houses.

The photo I linked to of Krema I is post war. Where the solitary oven stands now in the reconstruction, behind that was a door, converted to a window by the Soviets. There’s another photo of it in Pressac’s book.

        • I think Irving’s take on it is that some experimental gasings took place in these little red and white houses at Auschwitz outside the perimeter which don’t exist anymore, but that the mass destruction of thousands is a myth. As Irving would admit he hasn’t really studied the subject unlike other researchers but because he was a well known historian and then suddenly a sceptic he was the main target of the Holocaust lobby.

          • ps looking forward to seeing pictures of the Belzec memorial which if it is a you describe must be one of the biggest temples of the worldwide Holocaustreligion or Shoaismus cult.

Very good one, Pete. What about Shoaism, reminding of Taoism?

          • I did find a bit lump of rusted metal in Treblinka, which looked like it once encased a pipe. But i just left it on one of those thousands of rocks they got there. You know, the way Jews leave pebbles.

I’m in Lublin at the moment (the old town is stunningly beautiful) and I just walked past a gift shop which had a bearded Jewish man figurine, dressed in black, grasping a bag of money. I’ll get you one of those. 🙂

            • When I went to Cracow in 2008 some of the tour party made the obligatory pilgrimage to the mecca of Shoaismus ; I found the old town of Cracow more interesting but couldn’t help noticing politically incorrect references to a certain tribe painted on walls especially in the small rural villages just outside . Such graffiti would be regarded as a national emergency if it appeared in London but the Poles have an old fashioned reverence for free expression.

  5. Reconstruction of a gas chamber based on the original drawings is not saying that the crime of systematic murder did not happen. As David Irving has now relinquished that after seeing the papers of Eichman he acceps that millions of Jews were murdered and gassed in Auschwitz.

I believe that freedom of movement is absolutely essential, but the propaganda of his ilk should be constantly punished. It’s the propaganda of the Third Reich enabled the systematic murder of not only Jews, but of other races, within the camps. Freedom of speech is one thing; downright lies is another thing altogether.

    • Irving does not accept any of the four Birkenau Kremas were gas chambers.

His position is that some gassings occurred in the Bunkers.

Comment by The Black Rabbit of Inlé — October 29, 2012 @ 12:58 pm

    • Actually David Irving does not accept millions of Jews were gassed at Auschwitz as of October 28 2012; Perhaps you could link to a quote where he says ” Millions of Jews were gassed at Auschwitz” ?
The trouble with folk like you is you enjoy banning opinions which you don’t like and as for your last statement the truth doesn’t need laws to defend it as it is obvious, only lies need laws to protect them.

      Comment by Pete — October 29, 2012 @ 1:03 pm

    • The gas chamber in the Auschwitz main camp was NOT reconstructed according to the original drawings. That is the point. The point is that the reconstruction is NOT the same as the original room, which was most likely a morgue to hold the bodies of the prisoners waiting to be burned in the three ovens. The morgue was reconstructed to make it into a gas chamber, when the room was NOT originally a gas chamber, but rather a morgue.

When I attended a lecture given by David Irving after he was released from a prison in Austria, he did NOT say anything about seeing the papers of Eichmann. He mentioned seeing the papers of another guy, whose name I can’t recall at the moment, and based on these papers, he says that he now believes that Jews were murdered at Treblinka.

  6. But there’s not two doors, leading to two separate rooms behind the two adjacent ovens in the “reconstructed” gas chamber/crematorium.

There’s a single window, through which you can see a single room.

The hoaxers can’t even be honest about that.
