10-year-old twin survived the gas chamber, but his twin sister was gassed

This quote is from a news story, which you can read in full here:

Morristown – History and the lessons of the Holocaust came to life during this year’s 23rd annual Kristallnacht Week, Nov. 11-15, at the College of Saint Elizabeth.

Campus events – including survivor testimony, demonstrations of Holographic 3-D technology to capture survivor stories, as well as lectures, art exhibitions and interfaith prayer services — were attended by hundreds of CSE students, staff and faculty, high schools students and teachers, as well as the general public.

Pinchas Gutter, Holocaust survivor from Poland who spent his youth in the camps, shared his story with those who packed Dolan Performance Hall on November 11, the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht, or the Night of the Broken Glass. It was on that night that the Nazis wreaked havoc all across Germany and Austria as shops were burned, windows were shattered, stores looted, families torn apart, and more than 90 Jews were killed.

Gutter’s story is rooted at age 10 when he was forever separated from his parents and twin sister as they were herded to the gas chambers without even a chance to say goodbye. “I realized if I were to survive in the camps, I would have to kill my soul,” he said. Tampering his emotions and several miracles saved his life; miracles, or instances, where he was advised by others to lie about his age, hide under blankets and straw in barracks when sick with typhoid, or get dressed up to avoid selection for the gas chamber.

When Pinchas Gutter’s parents and twin sister were herded to the gas chambers, it must have been during the time that Dr. Josef Mengele was sick with typhus.

Although there were more than 30 doctors, who did the selections at Auschwitz, Dr. Mengele was on the line every day because he was looking for twins for his experiments. He would not have waved Gutter’s twin sister to the left, without so much as a “Goodbye” to her twin brother. He would have saved both twins.

Note that Pinchas Gutter was “advised by others” to “get dressed up” to avoid selection for the gas chamber.  I didn’t know that the prisoners at Auschwitz had more than one outfit to wear.  I never knew that 10-year-old Jewish children could “get dressed up” to avoid the gas chamber at Auschwitz.

I thought that children under the age of 15 were always sent to the gas chambers.  I fail to see how “getting dressed up” could save a child from the gas chamber.

Note that this was the 23rd time that Kristallnacht has been celebrated in America on November 11th.  According to Wikipedia, Krisstallnacht was on the night of November 9th and 10th in 1938.

    • Gawd, Herbie — Don’t you know that here getting put on the ADL’s “Extremism” page is a badge of honor? Look at the great company I’m in. I am a HoloCost revisionist, which to the ADL is worse than a “neo-Nazi.” And you are a rumor-mongering traitor to your people. And I think you already posted that once before.

There is a website: ‘’ you can have translated regarding the actual death toll during the Krtistallnacht, which is, I believe an Israeli source, which I did not use, but they state the death toll as high as 1400 Jews including those that committed suicide after their ordeal, rather than live. If you feel that I am living in fantasy-land, think again what they have to say !

Only trick enabling to make people believe the Nazis perpetrated the Kristallnacht as a revenge for the November 11th, 1918 defeat.

On November 11, 1938 The New York Times reported Goebbels had just urged the German population (called “Nazis” by the Kosher NYTimes) to halt the anti-jewish riots which had occured during the night of November 9-10th. (

  5. I am commenting on my own blog because I have just re-read my post, and I think now that I might have misread the reporter’s article.

Pinchas Gutter might have said that he was advised to hide under the blankets when he was sick, so that he would not be selected for the gas chamber because he was sick, AND HE WAS ALSO advised to get up and GET DRESSED when he was sick, so that he would not be perceived as sick, and thereby selected for the gas chamber. Prisoners who were sick were gassed because they could no longer work.

With my limited understanding of German: To dress up (sich verkleiden) does not mean the same as to get dressed (anziehen).

  6. The KRISTALLNACHT was thought to remember the GERMAN SURRENDER in 1918 and the deeds of the “NOVEMBER CRIMINALS”. 1918-1938: Twenty Years after the surrender Hitler had been given first the SAAR, then AUSTRIA and SUDETS. So a pogrom was already possible.
As to the story of that Pinhas Gutter, I myself would like to question him as it seems that there are a lot of things not told.
Who did control his status as Holocaust survivor?.

    Comment by Wolf Murmelstein — November 23, 2013 @ 2:01 pm

    • It was the was the assassination of the German diplomat Ernst Eduard vom Rath (who was posthumously given the title by Hitler citizen “Erster Klasse” (First Class) , assassinated in Paris in 1938 by a Jewish young man, Herschel Grynszpan, (Grünspan) which touched off Kristallnacht, The Night of Broken Glass, a lover scorned, and NOTHING else!
After the killing there were claims that vom Rath was a homosexual, and that Grynszpan was intending to use this claim in his defence at the trial by implying that Rath had seduced him. Whether or not Rath was homosexual is not clear; the French writer Andre Gide, himself a homosexual, testified in his personal diaries that vom Rath was well known in the Parisian homosexual community. There were rumours that occasionally he was called “Madame Ambassador” and “Notre Dame de Paris”… His brother, Gustav, was convicted of homosexual offences and there were allegations that vom Rath was treated for rectal gonorrhoea at the Berlin Institute of Radiology. As a result of the potential embarrassment the trial was indefinitely postponed. Grynszpan was extradited to Germany after the defeat of France in 1940 and is believed to have died in a German prison or concentration camp sometime after 1942, but was not officially declared deceased until 1960.
Dr. Murmelstein, I wish you would check out the facts first and not talk, ‘Wie eine Katze um den heißen Brei’.

Gee whiz, when are you going to stop naively falling for the rumor-mongering and fable-pushing and slandering of decent people in favor of the joos that always comes from Herr Stolpmann? This has been going on for so long now, already! No matter how much exposure is made of Herbie’s dishonesty and willingness to just make things up, you seem to want to fall for it. I don’t get it.

When you say you are “not aware of any of this,” why doesn’t it cause you to ask “why” you aren’t, and nobody else here is either? I was there, I was there, claims Herbie over and over. So were a lot of other people who didn’t see things the way he say they were.

But Grynszpan DIDN’T, did he? Maybe his lawyer advised against it, lol. So your dirty stories should not be shared since they’re only dirty RUMORS. Keep them to yourself.

      • Waw. That’s a lot of “rumours”, allegations” and “testified”, HS. Vom Rath’s alleged homosexuality was just one of the 6 versions Grynszpan gave to explain his murder..

Version 1: He did not mean to kill vom Rath. He had wanted to kill the German ambassador but because he did not know the ambassador personally, he shot vom Rath instead by mistake.

Version 2: He had only wanted to kill himself, but wanted to do so directly beneath a portrait of Adolf Hitler. In this way he hoped to become a symbol for the Jewish people, who were being murdered daily in Germany.

Version 3: He had not intended to kill anyone. Although he had a pistol in his hand, he did not know how to handle it properly and it simply went off accidentally.

Version 4: He could not remember what had happened while he stood in vom Rath’s office. All he remembered was that he was there, but did not remember why.

Version 5: He couldn’t understand the question at all. He must have had a complete blackout because he no longer remembered anything.

And finally, version 6, which he gave several years later to German officials: Whatever the French police had written down about his reason was nonsense. The true story is that he used to procure young boys for the German embassy secretary because vom Rath had been a homosexual. And he shot vom Rath because he had not been paid for his services. This is the only explanation which he later retracted during interrogation. However, none of these explanations is correct.

Although accepting the points you are raising, I was there and was fully aware, despite my youth, what the climate was like in Germany at that time and could give you even specific details of the suffering that was created. Old, completely innocent Orthodox Jews had their beards set alight by marauding HJ, with unforgivable consequences. I am sometimes surprised at your cynicism. However, the day of Rath’s death was the fifteenth anniversary of the Beer Hall Putsch of 1923, the “Tag der Bewegung” (Day of the Movement): the greatest day of the NS calendar. That evening Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels, after consulting with Hitler, made an inflammatory speech at the Bürgerbräukeller beer hall in Munich where the Putsch had been organised, in front of a crowd of senior veteran Nazis from all over Germany. It would not be surprising, he said, if the German people were so outraged by the assassination of a German diplomat by a Jew that they took the law into their own hands and attacked Jewish businesses, community centres, and synagogues. Such “spontaneous outbursts”, he said, should not be openly organised by the NSDAP or the SA, but neither should they be opposed or prevented. Within hours, Nazis launched a massive pogrom against Jewish communities throughout Germany, known as Kristallnacht (“Night of Broken Glass”), which lasted all night and into the next day. More than 90 people were killed, more than 30,000 Jews arrested and sent to concentration camps (where over a thousand died of mistreatment before the remainder were released some months later), and thousands of Jewish shops, homes, offices and more than 200 synagogues smashed up or burned. More than 1 billion Reichsmarks’ damage to property was reported. However, though Jews were able to make insurance claims for their property losses, Herman Göring, in charge of German economic planning,[that was the Vier-Jahresplan,sic] ruled that the claims would not be paid in this instance. These events shocked and horrified world opinion and helped bring to an end the climate of support for appeasement of Hitler in Britain, France, and the United States. They also caused a new wave of Jewish emigration from Germany.
Grüspan was distraught that his action was used by the Nazis as a ‘justification’ for further violent assaults on the German Jews

          • “Within hours, Nazis launched a massive pogrom against Jewish communities throughout Germany, known as Kristallnacht ”

The 1st riots had started before Goebbels’ speech. Moreover Goebbels had no order to give to the other Gauleiters. He had no influence outside Berlin, except in terms of propaganda. No way the German Gauleiters would have launched progroms without any direct order from Hitler or Himmler. Impossible.

“These events shocked and horrified world opinion ”

We both know who made (and still makes) world opinion through their media. I never doubted the Jewish media distorted and inflated those events from the very beginning.

“More than 1 billion Reichsmarks’ damage to property was reported. Just read what he said and what it meant!

It’s always the same with you, Holocaust believers. When you have nothing to support your unsubstantiated claims, you systematically say “euphemisms” and ‘report’ any convenient hearsay. If the Nazis had started an anti-Jewish pogrom I can assure you not only 3 of the 28 SA Groups would have taken part in it. Goebbels was an ardent anti-semite. Everybody knows that. But that changes nothing to the fact that the Gauleiters wouldn’t have risked their own neck because of a few words told by Goebbels at a dinner. Discipline and hierarchy were not empty words in Nazi Germany.

How could a speech given after 9 p.m. on the evening of 9 November have possibly incited a “pogrom” which had already begun the day before when the first provocateurs appeared at municipal and Party offices to persuade officials to take action against the Jews?

Although we do not know exactly what Dr. Goebbels said in his supposedly fiery speech, we do know what the Gauleiters and the SA commander did after the speech had ended: they went to the telephones and called their espective home offices to order their subordinates to do everything necessary to maintain peace and order. They emphasized that under no circumstances must anyone take part in any demonstrations. These telephone instructions were written down at the home offices by whoever was on duty. The orders from each Gauleiter were then passed on by telex to other offices within the Gau or district. These telex messages are still in various records files and are available to anyone who wishes to examine them.

                Orders to Stop the Pogrom

While the Gauleiters were calling their home offices, the head of the SA, Viktor Lutze, ordered all of his immediate subordinates, the SA Gruppenführers, who were together with him in Munich, to call their home offices as well. Lutze ordered that under no circumstances could SA men take part in any demonstrations against Jews, and that furthermore the SA was to intervene to stop any demonstrations already in progress. As a result of these strict orders, SA men began to guard Jewish stores that very night wherever windows had been broken. There is no doubt about this order by Lutze because we have the postwar court testimony of several witnesses confirming it. The SS and the police were given similar orders to restore peace and order. Himmler ordered Reinhard Heydrich to prevent all destruction of property and to protect Jews against demonstrators. The telex communication of this order still exists. It is in the files of the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg. However, during the Nuremberg trial this telex order was presented in three different forms, with forged amendments to change the original meaning. In my book Feuerzeichen I undertook to restore the original text.

Adolf Hitler joined the midnight celebration at the Feldherrnhalle. It was only after he returned to his apartment about one o’clock in the morning that he learned about the demonstrations which had been taking place in Munich, during which one synagogue had been set on fire. He was furious and immediately ordered the police chief of Munich to come see him. Hitler told him to immediately stop the fire and to make sure that no other outrages took place in Munich. He then called various police and Party officials throughout the Reich to learn the extent of these demonstrations. Finally, he ordered a telex message sent to all Gauleiter offices. It read: “By express order from the very highest authority, arson against Jewish businesses or other property must in no case and under no circumstances take place.”

                • Weckert’s thesis can be boiled down, essentially, to three key points:
Weckert minimizes the damage to Jewish property and synagogues on Reichskristallnacht
Weckert distorts pre-war and wartime anti-Jewish policy in Germany and the occupied territories
Weckert presents a conspiracy theory that powerful Jews and Jewish organizations conspired to assassinate vom Rath. [She is associated with Right-wing Organisations in Germany, sic]
Ingrid Weckert’s work is simply another example of pseudo-historiography practice by amateurs with the deliberate intent to mislead the reader. Given Weckert’s aforementioned political associations, not to mention those of the editor of the journal where this article appeared, this should not be surprising. What ought to surprise us, rather, is that the minimization by Holocaust deniers of Nazi crimes against the Jewish people has extended beyond the non-existence of gas chambers and death tolls in the tens of thousands to questioning what used to be the historical record even for these self-styled revisionists. The end goal is clearly to justify all actions taken by the Nazis against Jews, no matter how unfair, egregious, or violent. In other words, Weckert’s philosophy can be stated thus: The Holocaust didn’t happen, but the Jews deserved it.
