the Kraków report

A reader of my blog mentioned the Kraków report in a comment. Other followers of my blog might want to know what was in the Kraków report.

The following quote is from the Kraków report:

An Official Polish Report on the Auschwitz ‘Gas Chambers’

Kraków Forensic Institute Confirms Leuchter’s Findings

A recent investigation by a Polish government agency has authoritatively corroborated the findings of Fred Leuchter from his detailed 1988 on-site forensic examination of supposed German wartime extermination gas chambers.

The American execution expert concluded that the “gas chambers” in the former concentration camps of Auschwitz, Birkenau and Majdanek were never used to kill people. (On Leuchter’s findings and the resulting international controversy, see his detailed Report, as well as The Journal of Historical Review, Summer 1989 and Winter 1990-91, and the IHR Newsletter, October 1990 and January 1991.)

Concerned at the impact of Leuchter’s widely-circulated Report, the Auschwitz State Museum, a Polish government agency, commissioned the Institute of Forensic Research (Instytut Ekspertyz Sadowych) of Krakow to carry out its own investigation. The result: In a carefully worded six-page internal forensic report, the Institute’s experts essentially replicated Leuchter’s findings and implicitly corroborated his conclusions.

In spite of this, it is still against the law to deny the Holocaust gas chambers in 20 countries.

Did Fred Leuchter actually go to Auschwitz?

One of the new readers of my blog made a comment in which he claimed that Fred Leuchter never even went to Auschwitz, much less climbed down into a gas chamber.

Fred Leuchter has been demonized and driven out of polite society because he climbed down into a gas chamber, but claimed that it was not a gas chamber.

you know nothing, John Snow

No, I am not writing about John Snow, nor about Game of Thrones; I just wanted to get your attention.

The man who knows nothing is Fred Leuchter, who has now gone into hiding, similar to John Snow, who is allegedly dead.

The claim of the Holocaust True Believers is that Fred Leuchter knows nothing because he has a degree in History, not a degree in Chemistry.

I am presenting a report, written by Fred Leuchter, about the alleged Dachau gas chamber.  My readers can decide for themselves whether Fred Leuchter knows anything about gas chambers.

Report written by Fred Leuchter:

-Dachau-
The alleged execution facility at Dachau is located in a building called “Baracke X”. This installation was erected in 1942 and contained a crematory consisting of four (4) retorts.
It was constructed primarily as a replacement for the older and smaller two (2) retort crematory located nearby. The facility also housed a morgue, fumigation cubicles (delousing chambers), related work areas and a room identified by a sign over the door as a “Brausebad” (shower room). It is this shower room which has been alleged to be the gas chamber and which tourists today are informed was the “gas chamber”.
The alleged gas chamber has an area of some 427 square feet and a volume of some 3,246.7 cubic feet. It originally was a shower room but appears to have been modified sometime after Dachau’s capture by the Americans. The present ceiling is some 7.6 feet in height and contains some seventeen (17) pseudo-shower heads, fabricated out of what appears to be soldered sheet zinc. Additionally, it contains some eight (8) recessed lighting fixtures which are not explosion proof. It also contains two (2) alleged gas inlet ports (dumps) with internal grates measuring 15.75 inches x 27.25 inches which are welded open to the outside. This alleged gas chamber also contains a ventilation port clearly added after construction. The walls are of tile and the ceiling of concrete painted white. There are two (2) 20.5 inch x 26 inch floor drains connected to the other floor drains throughout the building and the camp. It has two (2) doors with provision for gasketing, as do many European doors.
It appears from construction that the alleged gas chamber was originally a shower room, as found in all the other investigated camps. The pseudo-shower heads are fabricated from sheet metal of a cylinder and a cone with a sprinkler type head as found on a garden type watering can. The end is sealed and not threaded. They are not connected, nor are they capable of being connected to any piping system. They are designed to appear as functional shower heads when observed from below. The ceiling with the phoney shower heads seems to have been added at a time later than original construction, apparently after capture of the camp. The ceiling is fabricated of poured concrete, cast around the pseudo shower heads. It is typical suspended-slab concrete construction. Document No. 47 of the 79th Congress, 1st Session, of the United States, includes an investigation of Dachau.
In this document, the gas chamber is described as having a 10 foot ceiling containing brass fixtures for introducing gas into the chamber. The present ceiling, as noted, is only 7.6 feet high and has none of the gas inlet fixtures described in Document No. 47.
Directly over the shower room are the steam and heating pipes, which is consistent with good and standard design for supplying hot water to the shower area. These pipes cannot be seen in the shower room today. Their existence, however, can be confirmed by observing the pipes entering into the shower room area from an off-limits corridor behind the shower room and visible only from a rear window of the building. It is an inept and extremely dangerous design to put hot, high pressure steam pipes over a chamber containing potentially explosive gas. At one end of the chamber the ventilation port was clearly added. The ports alleged to have been “Zyklon B” introduction ports, not different from apartment incinerator garbage shutes, were obviously added after the original tiling. Both these modifications are clearly discernible from the uneven replacement of the interior tiles and the exterior brick. At one end of the room there are two (2) recessed electrical boxes with grates, something which should not be in a room containing potentially explosive gas. There is no means for sealing the room to prevent gas leakage and there is no system for exhausting the gas after use or any suitable vent stack (40 foot minimum is standard). The doors are not gas proof, or even water proof. They are only water resistant. There is no system for evaporating (heating) or distributing a gas into or within the chamber. The use of the improperly designed “Zyklon B” introduction port would prevent proper evaporation of the gas from the “Zyklon B” pellets because of insufficient surface area exposure. Most, if not all, of the “Zyklon B” pellets would remain in the dumping mechanism due to insufficient angular motion of the gas pellet dump.
On a sign posted within the alleged gas chamber, Dachau Museum officials state: “GAS CHAMBER – disguised as a ‘shower room’ – never used as a gas chamber”. An examination of the alleged gas chamber clearly shows, however, that this facility was constructed as a shower room, used only for this purpose. The modifications to the room which include the addition of the ceiling, pseudo shower heads, air intake and gas inlet ports were made at a time much later than the original construction of “Baracke X” and the shower room, and for reasons and by persons unknown to this author. No samples were taken at this location due to excessively heavy tourist traffic inside the alleged gas chamber.
For the record, this alleged gas chamber would have held only forty-seven (47) persons utilizing the nine (9) square foot inclusion rule as accepted by standard engineering practice for air handling systems. Without an exhaust system or windows, it would require at least one week to vent by convection. This estimate is based on American gas chambers requiring twenty (20) minutes to vent with two complete air changes per minute, and a minimum of forty-eight (48) hours to vent a fumigated building with an abundance of windows.
An inspection of the four (4) new crematory retorts at “Baracke X” revealed that, although fired, none of these ever experienced much use, if any. These retorts were coal fired.
After an in depth investigation of the alleged gas chamber at “Baracke X,” Dachau, this investigator, in his best engineering opinion, categorically states that this installation could not have ever been utilized as an execution gas chamber. It was in fact a shower room (Brausebad) as originally labeled by the Germans.

Fun and profit, using photos of fingernail scratches on the wall of the Auschwitz gas chamber

If you would like to have a photo of the Auschwitz fingernail scratches, hanging on the wall of your living room, you can buy a large framed photo online at

http://www.art.com/products/p14404813-sa-i2875124/david-clapp-fingernail-scratches-in-main-gas-chamber-auschwitz-poland.htm

or at

http://www.allposters.com/-sp/Fingernail-Scratches-in-Main-Gas-Chamber-Auschwitz-Poland-Posters_i3971294_.htm

When I went to see the Auschwitz main camp in October 2005, I was alone in the gas chamber for over an hour, and I could have taken photos of the fingernail scratches, suitable for framing, but stupid me, I didn’t realize that there was a market for this sort of thing.

I took the photo below in 2005.  Notice the scratches, on the left side of the photo,  just under the electrical wiring on the wall. At the top of the photo, you can see a ceiling beam, which indicates that the scratches are high up on the gas chamber wall.  Why did the victims reach up so high to put scratches on the wall?  Probably, because an evil Nazi came into the gas chamber and put white paint over the scratches on the lower part of the wall.  The only space left for scratches was high up on the wall.

In the photo above, the fingernail scratches are on the left side, near the top of the photo, underneath the electrical wiring, which is for the light fixtures in the room.

The photo below shows the wiring in the gas chamber and the lights in the room.

Wiring and light fixtures in the Auschwitz gas chamber

Wiring and light fixtures in the Auschwitz gas chamber

Notice the wall on the left side of the photo.  All of the scratches appear to be on this wall. Notice that the wall is a light brown color, except for the patches of white and light blue paint, which appear to be covering previous scratches. The new scratches are above the patches of paint, near the ceiling beams.

There are stories that the victims lifted the babies up near the ceiling so that they could live a few minutes longer by breathing the last little bit of pure air.

The photo below shows one of the holes in the ceiling, which was reconstructed by the Soviet Union, after Auschwitz was liberated on January 27, 1945.  There are currently four of these holes, which were allegedly used to pour the Zyklon-B gas pellets into the gas chamber. (Some Holocaust experts say that originally, there were three holes, in a straight line.) The Soviets did the best that they could, when they reconstructed the gas chamber, so don’t complain.

Reconstructed hole in the ceiling of Auschwitz gas chamber

One of the reconstructed holes in the ceiling of  the Auschwitz gas chamber

The question is:  Were these holes air tight?  If not, the gas would have escaped from the room, and it would have taken hours for the victims to die.  Were the babies allowed to live a few minutes longer because they could breathe the fresh hair coming through these holes?

What about the lights in the room?  Were the lights on, while the victims were dying in the gas chamber?  Most likely, the lights WERE on, so that the victims could see well enough to scratch a perfect star of david with their fingernails.

You can see two perfect Stars of David, scratched by a victim, who had very sharp pointed fingernails, at

http://www.nathan-miller.com/photos/israel/ausch/ausch-Pages/Image21.html

You can see an excellent photo of the scratches on the wall [the second photo] on this website:

http://www.boredpanda.com/must-see-powerful-photos/

In the photo, in the link above, notice the electrical wiring at the top of the photo. This photo was taken near the same place where I took my photo.  I was trying to take a photo of the ceiling, so I didn’t get a dramatic shot of the scratches.

What about the walls of the gas chamber?  Fred Leuchter, a gas chamber expert, who has been thoroughly discredited, had some complaint about the walls, and about the lighting, but what does he know?

This quote is from Fred Leuchter’s report on the Auschwitz gas chamber:

None of these facilities were sealed or gasketed. No provision was ever made to prevent condensation of gas on the walls, floor or ceiling. No provision ever existed to exhaust the air-gas mixture from these buildings. No provision ever existed to introduce or distribute the gas throughout the chamber. No explosion-proof lighting existed and no attempt was ever made to prevent gas from entering the crematories, even though the gas is highly explosive.

You can see some excellent photos of Auschwitz on this blog:  http://imgur.com/gallery/pxAvz
Scroll down to Photos # 7, 8 and 9.  Photo # 7 shows a sign in the gas chamber, which tells visitors that they must be silent, out of respect to the thousands of people who died in this room.  That sign was not there the last time that I was in Auschwitz in 2005.
Photo #8 shows one of the holes in the roof of the gas chamber with the lid removed, so that you can look through the hole, up to the sky above.  This is the same hole that I show on my blog today.
Photo #9 shows the scratches on the wall of the gas chamber.
I didn’t know that high school students are now allowed to walk around inside the gas chamber and take photos. Were these students allowed inside the gas chamber without an official tour guide?
There are a million comments on this blog post, which indicate that the students on this trip were very disturbed by seeing the fingernail scratches near the ceiling of the gas chamber.

The state of Missouri might bring back the gas chamber as a means of execution

Interior of the Missouri gas chamber

Gas chamber in Jefferson City, Missouri

Gas chamber in Jefferson City, Missouri

In today’s news, I learned that the state of Missouri might bring back the gas chamber as a means of executing condemned prisoners.

This quote is from the news article:

“Currently, there are no operational facilities that are capable of conducting an execution by lethal gas,” Steele said. “They would have to be rebuilt.”

What a revolting development this is!

But wait, this might be a job opportunity for Fred Leuchter, who used to be the one and only gas chamber consultant in the world, before he ruined his career and was forced to go into hiding after he testified at the Holocaust denial trials of Ernst Zündel.

Since then, Leuchter has been surpassed by Germar Rudolf as the leading gas chamber expert.  I must warn you that the highly scientific books written by Rudolf will bore you to death, but his books are REQUIRED reading if you want to know the truth about the so-called gas chambers used in the Holocaust.

Germar has his own website.  Highly recommended.

When I first learned, at the age of 12, about the gassing of the Jews, I thought that the Jews were being killed two at a time, just like condemned prisoners were killed in the Missouri gas chamber, which I had seen on a school trip to Jefferson City.  The news that Jews were being gassed was first reported by the British in 1942.

It was only years later that I learned that 2,000 or 3,000 Jews were gassed at a time in the gas chambers of the Holocaust.  I didn’t question this, until I finally saw the gas chamber at Dachau for the first time in 1997.

Listen to what a gas chamber expert had to say about the Holocaust gas chambers

Several years ago, there was a YouTube video which showed Fred Leuchter, Jr. speaking about the gas chambers at Auschwitz. Since then, the video has been taken down. However, you can read what Leuchter wrote about the Holocaust gas chambers here.

Leuchter’s life was ruined after he testified in the trial of a Holocaust denier in Canada a few years ago, after which, he apparently went into hiding, in fear of his life.

This quote is from the website, cited above:

…. a very believing engineer sat at his desk working one snowy January afternoon in 1988, when the telephone rang. This very believing engineer [Fred Leuchter] was about to receive a very shocking history lesson, one which would cause him to question that 50-year-old Holocaust lie and the application of that lie to generations of children. “Hello, this is Robert Faurisson” — and that very believing engineer would believe no more.   […]

4. Construction
Construction of these facilities shows that they were never used as gas chambers. No attempt was made to protect operating personnel from exposure to the gas or to protect other non-participating persons from exposure. Specifically, at Auschwitz, a floor drain in the alleged gas chamber was connected directly to the camp’s storm drain system. At Majdanek a depressed walkway around the alleged gas chambers would have collected gas seepage and resulted in a death trap for camp personnel. No exhaust stacks ever existed. Hydrogen cyanide gas is an extremely dangerous and lethal gas, and nowhere were there any provisions to effect any amount of safe handling. The chambers were too small to accommodate more than a small fraction of the alleged numbers. Plain and simple, these facilities could not have operated as execution gas chambers.

Note that virtually everything that Fred wrote is what I have been trying to communicate through my blog for over two years.

Except for one tiny detail:  “the floor drain in the alleged [Auschwitz] gas chamber” is included in the reconstructed gas chamber that is shown to tourists, but this drain was originally inside a washroom in the gas chamber building in the main camp.

I previously blogged about the Auschwitz gas chamber floor drain here.  I also blogged about the 6 floor drains in the Dachau gas chamber here.  According to Fred, a gas chamber absolutely cannot have even one floor drain, much less 6 drains.

Nazis set up a Family Camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau to fool the Red Cross

Most people know about the famous visit by the Red Cross to the Theresienstadt concentration camp in June 1944 where the Nazis fooled Red Cross representatives into thinking that the prisoners were being treated well.  You can read about it on my previous blog post here.

What I didn’t know, until just recently, is that the Czech Family Camp was set up at Auschwitz-Birkenau, in order to fool the Red Cross again, in case Red Cross representatives decided to make a visit to the famous Auschwitz II death camp to see how the Czechs were being treated. The Czech Family Camp was in existence for six months before the Nazis carried out their real plan, which was to murder all the prisoners who had been sent from Theresienstadt to Auschwitz.

One of the survivors of the Czech Family Camp was Otto Dov Kulka (born in 1933) who has written a book entitled Landscapes of the Metropolis of Death. I will get to him later.  Otto’s father was also a survivor of the Family Camp.  You can read about him here.

This quote, regarding the Family Camp, is from this website:

It is still not altogether clear why the organisers (sic) of the final solution created the family camp, with its unusual privileges, only to liquidate it several months later. All that seems clear is that this remarkable activity was connected with the Nazis’ attempts to hide the genocide of the Jews to the outside world, and with the visit of the International Committee of the Red Cross to Terezín, for which Terezín’s SS command ordered the ghetto to be specially embellished. The Terezín SS command then showed the Red Cross delegates a Potemkin village, which had very little in common with Terezín’s cruel reality. A few days before they were murdered, the prisoners of the family camp were ordered to write post-dated postcards to their Terezín relations from the labour camp at Birkenau. The Terezín prisoners were thus meant to gain the false idea, ahead of the Red Cross commissioner’s visit, that their parents, childrens and siblings in Birkenau were all right, and above all alive. Some historians also believe that the family camp was meant to be the target of a similarly-manipulated visit by the International Committee of the Red Cross, this time to Auschwitz.

Map of Auschwitz-Birkeanau

Map of Auschwitz-Birkeanau

But I am getting ahead of the story. The map of Birkenau, in the photo above, shows the Family Camp in section BIIb (B2B) on the left side. Click on the map to see it in a larger size. The main camp road is shown on the map, dividing the Family Camp from the women’s camp and the buildings where disinfection chambers and shower rooms were located. The Krema II and Krema III gas chamber buildings are shown in red on the map.

The article from the website cited above starts out with this quote:

In September 1943 five thousand prisoners were deported from the Terezín ghetto [Theresienstadt] to Auschwitz-Birkenau in two transports.Unlike previous transports, they received unusual privileges: on arriving at the camp they did not undergo the usual selections, and families were also not divided up into various sections in the camp – hence the family camp. The privileges also included the fact that the Terezín prisoners were not subjected to the humiliating ritual of having their heads shaved on arrival, and that children were allowed to spend daytimes in a children’s block. In December 1943 and May 1944, further large transports from Terezín brought a further 12,500 prisoners, who were placed in the family camp. While the first transports consisted exclusively of prisoners who had come to Terezín from the Czech lands, almost half the prisoners on later transports were Jews who had initially been deported from Germany, Austria and the Netherlands.

In the family camp, labelled section BIIb in Birkenau, the prisoners had to live in a narrow, muddy strip surrounded by an electric fence. They suffered from hunger, cold, exhaustion, illnesses and poor sanitation. The mortality rate was no lower here than in the rest of Auschwitz. The children were allowed to spend the day in the children’s block, where teachers led by the charismatic Fredy Hirsch engaged them in improvised lessons and games.

The unusual privileges given to the prisoners in the family camp were a complete mystery to the members of the Auschwitz resistance movement. After a while, however, they managed to find out that the prisoners’ personal papers contained the abbreviation SB and the period six months. SB – Sonderbehandlung, or special treatment – was code in Nazi jargon for execution without verdict, in Auschwitz usually death in the gas chambers.

After exactly six months, all the still-living prisoners who had been deported to Auschwitz in September 1943 were told that they would be transferred to the Heydebreck labour camp. Instead of going to this fictitious camp, however, the lorries of prisoners headed to the Auschwitz gas chambers, where on the night of 8 March they were murdered without selection. According to several eyewitnesses, before going to their deaths in the Auschwitz gas chambers they sang, as a sign of resistance, the Czechoslovak anthem, the Jewish anthem Hatikva and the Internationale. Members of the Auschwitz resistance organisation (sic) had warned Fredy Hirsch and other prisoners in the family camp that they were shortly to be murdered, and had appealed to them to rebel – however, there was not enough time to prepare and organise (sic) armed revolt. Fredy Hirsch, who had been expected to lead the rebellion, then died of an overdose of tranquillisers (sic) — it is probable that he committed suicide.

From that point on, the remaining prisoners in the family camp lived in permanent fear that after six months they would meet the same fate. At the beginning of July 1944 these fears were confirmed: unlike in March, however, the prisoners underwent selections, and some of them were sent to work in other concentration camps. By chance, Mengele was persuaded to carry out a selection of the boys from the children’s block, which meant that some of them managed to survive until liberation. Approximately 6-7,000 prisoners remained in the family camp, and were then murdered over the course of two nights, from 10 to 12 July 1944. Of the 17,500 prisoners sent to the family camp, only 1,294 survived.

The liquidation of the family camp on 8 March and 10-12 July 1944 was the largest mass murder of Czechoslovak citizens during the Second World War.

This quote is from this website, which gives a review of a new book, entitled Landscapes of the Metropolis of Death, written by Otto Dov Kulka, a survivor of the Czech Family Camp:

[Otto] and his mother were part of a unique transport of Jews from Theresienstadt who were housed together in a specially designated “Family Camp”, and allowed to continue some semblance of normal life. He attended a makeshift school, where he and his friends put on plays and concerts, some of which were attended by camp dignitaries like Josef Mengele. They were all aware that this was highly unusual, and could not understand why they should have been singled out for such special treatment (it turned out that they were being kept as a showpiece just in case the Red Cross should visit).

Their good fortune did not last long. In March 1944, exactly six months after their arrival, the entire group was rounded up and taken to the gas chambers. There were no selections, and no possibility of escape – they were simply disposed of en masse. Their place was then taken by a new group, which was again to be granted the same privileges and the same freedoms – but only until their six months had, in turn, come to an end.

Kulka and his mother survived the first culling by a twist of fate: they both happened to be in the infirmary on the night of the liquidation. But they were under no illusion that this was anything but a temporary reprieve. Unlike the rest of Auschwitz, whose inmates might at least hold out hope of being “selected” for work duties, they knew that any future round-up would take in all of them, and that they would all be killed. It is this certainty, this “immutable Law of the Great Death”, that formed the background to Kulka’s experience of Auschwitz, and which has continued to haunt him ever since.

[…]

In later years [Otto] visited the remains of Auschwitz, and made a point of stepping through the doorway into the ruins of the crematorium where his childhood friends were all killed, in the hope that this symbolic act might somehow lay his mind to rest.

Ruins of Krema II crematorium

Ruins of Krema II crematorium

Note that Otto Dov Kulka visited “the remains of Auschwitz” and stepped “through the doorway into the ruins of the crematorium” where his childhood friends were killed.  What doorway?  Have the ruins of Krema II, shown in the photo above, been opened up so that tourists can now enter through a doorway?  If so, I think that this is a good idea.

Few people have been brave enough to climb through the hole in the roof of Krema II to see the inside of the gas chamber.  It should be opened up, with wheel chair access, so that everyone can see the inside of the gas chamber, which Fred Leuchter first entered years ago.  Seriously.  Everyone should have the opportunity to see the gas chamber evidence which Fred never  found.

the mystery of the small opening on the outside wall of the Dachau gas chamber — Updated

Update, April 6, 2015:

You can read a recent news story about Henry Mazel, who had one of the first websites about the Holocaust. Mazel’s website, which is no longer in existence, was mainly about the Dachau concentration camp, but specifically about the Dachau gas chamber.

This quote is from the news article:

Begin quote

BOULDER, Colo. (JTA) — The yellowing document is crumbling and fading, but the smooth signature on its cover is as legible as it is chilling: Rudolf Hess, the Nazi who served as a Hitler deputy from 1933 to 1941.

The signature, which adorns a 70-year-old leniency plea for top Nazi Hermann Goering during the postwar Nuremberg trials, is one of some 500,000 discrete items and 20,000 books donated last year to the University of Colorado at Boulder — nearly the entirety of one of the world’s largest privately owned Holocaust collections. The unusual trove includes aerial surveillance photos of the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp, decaying copies of the Nazi newspaper Der Sturmer, Nuremberg trial transcripts, and a trove of pro-Nazi and Holocaust denial literature.

“We don’t even know what we have,” said David Shneer, director of the Jewish Studies program at University of Colorado at Boulder and the person responsible for bringing the archive to the university. “We have teams of students inventorying it. We hope to get through everything by the fall.”

The unlikely story of how the archive, known as the Mazal Holocaust Collection, ended up in Boulder is a tale of Holocaust denial, a hidden Jewish past and the shady market for Holocaust artifacts.

Hole on outside wall of gas chamber at Dachau concentration camp

The photo above shows a boarded-up hole in the outside wall of the Baracke X building at the former Dachau concentration camp. There is no corresponding hole on the inside of the building; the room behind this wall was allegedly a homicidal gas chamber.  I always assumed that this was a botched construction of a peep hole.  Until now…

When I read in the news today about the death of Harry W. Mazal, I decided to take another look at his famous holocaust-history.org website.  The purpose of Mazal’s website, according to his daughter, is to combat Holocaust denial.  I had read the section on the Dachau gas chamber years ago when I first became interested in the Holocaust.  In reading this section again, I was particularly interested in his description of how a homicidal gassing was carried out at Dachau.

Two bins on outside wall of Dachau gas chamber

Quote from the gas chamber section on the holocaust-history.org website here:

The person in charge of a homicidal gassing need only don a gas mask, open the two bins, and dump part of a small tin of Zyklon-B into each one. Having done this, the operator would close the bins, which are protected from interference from the victims by a protective grating, <photo 40> <photo 41> and wait a few minutes until all the victims were dead. At this point, the powerful mechanical extractor could be energized sending the poisonous fumes into the atmosphere, drawing fresh air through a small hatchway located above the bins. The bodies could then be moved into the mortuary chamber to await incineration in the adjoining crematory furnaces.

I have put the most important part in bold face type to draw attention to it.  Now it all makes sense.  The hole in the wall was put there for the purpose of bringing fresh air into the room to air it out after the use of Zyklon-B to gas the prisoners.

Here is another quote from holocaust-history.org:

A larger room adjacent to the four disinfestation chambers is also a gas chamber but this one was designed specifically for homicidal purposes. Any doubts that this chamber is a gas chamber are rapidly dispelled upon viewing the exhaust vents on the ceiling of the room <photo 31>, the exhaust chimney on the roof <photo 32>, and the metal doors that are in use by the the disinfestation gas chambers <photo 33>.

Vent pipe on roof directly over the gas chamber

The photo above shows two “exhaust chimneys” on the roof of the Baracke X building, one of which is directly over the gas chamber. The photo below shows the roof of the building in 1945 just after the camp was liberated. Note that the larger pipe on the right is the same kind of pipe that is shown in the color photo, above the gas chamber.  I don’t know of any photo, taken before the liberation of Dachau, that shows a vent pipe directly over the alleged gas chamber. The photo below was taken several days after the camp was liberated.  In fact, there are no old photos of the gas chamber building that I have ever seen.

Look closely at the photo above: Is that the air intake hole on the far right of the photo?

The infamous Holocaust denier Fred Leuchter visited the Dachau Memorial site years ago and wrote the following in his report:

An examination of the alleged gas chamber clearly shows, however, that this facility was constructed as a shower room, used only for this purpose. The modifications to the room which include the addition of the ceiling, pseudo shower heads, air intake and gas inlet ports were made at a time much later than the original construction of “Baracke X” and the shower room, and for reasons and by persons unknown to this author.

Outside wall of the Dachau gas chamber

Note that Leuchter concluded that the air intake and gas inlet ports, shown in the photo above, were constructed sometime later. Leuchter wrote that the holes in the wall of the Baracke X building were added at a later time, after the building was constructed in 1943.  But what does he know?  He doesn’t have a degree in engineering and has been thoroughly discredited as a gas chamber expert.

This is another quote from the Leuchter report:

Without an exhaust system or windows, it would require at least one week to vent by convection. This estimate is based on American gas chambers requiring twenty (20) minutes to vent with two complete air changes per minute, and a minimum of forty-eight (48) hours to vent a fumigated building with an abundance of windows.

So Fred Leuchter thinks that the vent on the roof was NOT enough to air out the Dachau gas chamber. And he thinks that the vent was added later.

Here is another interesting quote from the holocaust-history.org web site:

The question arises of the difference between the method of dispensing of Zyklon-B to the disinfestation chambers and to the extermination chamber. Quite simply: the exposure time and concentration of hydrogen cyanide gas for killing insects is considerably higher than that which is needed to kill humans. According to the manufacturers of the product, it only requires 0.3 grams per cubic meter to kill human beings, whereas concentrations of up to 10 grams per cubic meter were routinely employed to destroy insects. 22 The relative ease with which it is possible to kill humans with low concentrations of hydrogen cyanide makes it simpler and less expensive to use the drawer-like bins in the homicidal chamber rather than to use the costly Degesch dispensers. Additionally, the bins would allow for other volatile poisons to be employed as suggested by Rascher in his letter to Himmler.

Did the manufacturer of Zyklon-B actually say how much of their “product” was needed to kill human beings?  Did they know that their “product” was being used in homicidal gas chambers?

The Degesch dispenser referred to above is shown in the photo below.  This photo was taken in one of the four gas chambers at Dachau that were used to kill lice in the clothing of the prisoners. Note that the walls of the disinfection chamber have been painted over so that the stains left by the use of Zyklon-B can no longer be seen.

Degesch dispenser in Dachau disinfection gas chamber

I learned from the Mazal website that Degesch machines were originally proposed for the Auschwitz camp, but the decision was made not to use them.

Shown below is a close-up of the hole which the Mazal web site says was for air intake into the gas chamber for the purpose of airing it out. Today, tour guides at Dachau completely ignore this boarded-up hole and do not explain its purpose.

“air intake” hole in outside wall of Dachau gas chamber

Tour guides at Dachau tell visitors that the gas chamber was used.  For example, this quote from a blog post written by a recent visitor:

Dachau Camp, as were all of the camps, was a hell on earth. The prisoners first lost their identity after coming through the gate, being tattooed with a number on their arm. They then had to sign over all their worldly goods to the Nazis. Their families were often held in other parts of the camp, so they didn’t dare disobey.
Dachau had it all. Medical experiments, torture, beatings, gas chambers, mass executions etc. In the inner part of the camp were the gas chambers which no one came out of alive. Even the prisoners who herded their fellow inmates into the “showers” were themselves changed over every few weeks and sent to the “showers” to prevent word leaking out as to what was happening in the inner compound.

Note that this quote mentions that “The prisoners first lost their identity after coming through the gate, being TATTOOED with a number on their arm.”

The only camp where prisoners were tattooed was Auschwitz.  After the Auschwitz camp was abandoned, some of the prisoners, who had been tattooed, were taken to Dachau.

Do you know what a “retort” is?

If you don’t know by now what a “retort” is, you can look it up on google.  You will find several web sites which give the definition of retort, which means a sharp reply.  But what if you are reading something on the Internet, and you find the word “retort” used as a noun to mean an object at a former Nazi concentration camp? What is a “retort” at Dachau, for example.  Several years ago, I took it upon myself to illustrate what a “retort” looks like at Dachau.

O.K. I won’t keep you in suspense.  The photo below shows four “retorts” at Dachau.  The “retorts” are openings in the ovens to place the bodies for cremation.  The new  crematorium at Dachau has four “retorts” and the old crematorium has two “retorts.”

Four “retorts” for burning bodies in the new crematorium at Dachau

The old crematorium at Dachau has two “retorts.”

On my web site scrapbookpages.com, there is  page on which I put the text of the Leuchter Report with links to photos illustrating the words used in the report.  You can read this page here. At the top of the page, I very clearly wrote:

The Leuchter Report on the Dachau gas chamber is printed here in order to show photos which illustrate and explain the terms used. Fred Leuchter, who does not have a degree in Engineering, has been discredited as a gas chamber expert and he no longer works as a gas chamber consultant.
(Click on the links below to see photographs of the features of the gas chamber referred to in the Leuchter Report. These photographs were NOT taken by Fred Leuchter and were NOT included in his report.)

On July 20, 2010, another blogger posted this.  On July 24, the post was updated to include this paragraph in which the blogger accused me of being a Holocaust denier:

* * * * * * F u r t h e r g l o r y / s c r a p b o o k   p r o v i d e s˛ˇ   l i n k   t o   d i s c r e d i t e d     F r e d   L e u c h t e r   s i t e   ,   t h u s   c l i n c h i n g   h i s   d e n i a l   a s   a   f a c t .

The moral of this story is that it doesn’t take much to become a criminal in today’s world.  If I ever go to Germany again, I could be put in prison for 5 years, just for illustrating something written by a Holocaust denier.

Update, August 4, 2010

The blog referenced above has now put up a new blog post which acknowledges that the page on scrapbookpages.com which links to the Leuchter Report  clearly states that Fred Leuchter has been discredited and no longer works as a gas chamber consultant.  So I assume that it’s O.K. to illustrate the Leuchter Report, according to today’s blog which you can read here.
