Donald Trump’s wife did not go up to the famous Western Wall in Jerusalem

This morning I watched, on TV, as President Trump went up to touch the Western Wall in Jerusalem. He was not accompanied by his wife. This led me to wonder if women are allowed to touch the wall.

Years ago, when I was traveling the world over, I wanted to go to Israel. I consulted a Jewish friend about this, and he told me not to go to Israel. He said “the Jews will rob you, rape you, and leave you lying in a ditch beside the road”. Those were his exact words. So I didn’t go to Israel.

This morning I read a news article which answered my question about whether women could go up to the Western Wall: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-becomes-first-sitting-u-s-president-to-visit-the-western-wall/

The following quote is from the news article:

Begin quote

President Trump on Monday became the first sitting American president to visit the Western Wall in Jerusalem, which is considered Judaism’s holiest site.

Mr. Trump was seen placing a note inside the wall as he visited the mens-only side — a tradition visitors can partake in by writing a prayer or request and placing it in one of the wall’s cracks. Meanwhile, first lady Melania Trump was seen standing in front of the small portion of the wall devoted to women.

End quote

Apparently all TV cameras were on Trump, while no one photographed Melania as she touched “theĀ  small portion of the wall devoted to women.”
