Natalie Holloway still in the news…

Today, there are news articles about Natalie Holloway, whose body has never been found. What really happened to her? Who knows?

I think that she escaped, to get away from her controlling mother.

Joran van der Sloot is back in the news:  http://abc3340.com/news/local/report-main-suspect-in-natalee-holloway-disappearance-says-hes-guilty

I have blogged about the Natalee Holloway case on three previous blog posts:

Now Joran is back in the news because he has confessed to killing Natalee.

I don’t believe that Natalee is dead. I think that she ran away from home to get away from her stepfather. I believe that Joran told this story to a news person recently because he wants to put the story to rest.  He believes that Natalee has a new life and is happy, so he wants the story to go away.

Joran is now married, even though he is in prison for life, and he has a child of his own.

Greta van Susteren’s update on the Natalee Holloway story last night

You can read a recent news article about the Natalee Holloway case at http://www.al.com/news/birmingham/index.ssf/2015/05/natalee_holloway_10_years_late.html

You can read about Greta van Susteren’s TV show about Natalee Holloway here.

Let me say right off the bat, that I am a great fan of Greta van Susteren; I watch her news show on TV every night. I was looking forward to her show about Natalee Holloway last night, but I was sorely disappointed.

Her show started off by pointing out that in May 2005, Natalee Holloway was 18 years old. Her mother [Beth Holloway] said, on  the show, that Natalee was a “good kid.”  That depends on your definition of a “good kid.”

Natalee was already enrolled as a student at the University of Alabama — she allegedly wanted to be a doctor. It was pointed out on last night’s show that Natalee was very smart: she had a 4.17 GPA [Grade Point Average]. Natalee had already rented a dorm room and her future roommates were already known.

So it was established very early on the show that Natalee was a serious, studious young woman of 18, who was a virtual saint — not some ditsy young girl who would throw away her life by running away from home on a vacation in Aruba.

One of Natalee’s two classmates, who were allowed to speak on the show, was a girl named Mallie Tucker.

It was pointed out on the show that on May 26, 2005, Natalee and her classmates left on a plane for Aruba, to celebrate their  graduation from High School.  A lot of footage was shown of Aruba, so that low class people in America would realize that Aruba is a ritzy place for rich young students like Natalee to have fun before starting college in the fall.

It was pointed out that Natalee was staying at the Holiday Inn, right on the beach, with her classmates, two of whom were on Greta’s show last night. [Mallie Tucker was one of these girls] At the time that Natalee disappeared, her mother had prevented her classmates from talking to the police, but now she was allowing two of her classmates to talk.

It was pointed out, on Greta’s show last night, that when Joran first met Natalee in a bar, he  told her that he lived in the Netherlands, and that he was in Aruba on vacation. It is true that Joran was a Dutch citizen, and maybe that is what he told her.

It was NOT pointed out on the show that Joran was drinking with some of the other Mountain View female students at a bar when Natalee walked in alone. Why weren’t we told that Natalee was not spending her time in Aruba with the other girls?

A woman named Claire Fairman then said that Joran was 17 years old when he met Natalee, and that “he was showing signs of being a sociopath.” Joran was allegedly “stealing from his parents.” According to Claire, Joran’s family was “afraid of him,” and they “had moved him into their guest house,” after he had attacked family members.

It was then pointed out that Natalee was last seen getting into a car with Joran. Natalee’s mother was in Aruba by 11 p.m. that very night.

On her show last night, Greta said that Joran had told someone that “he had sex with Natalie in the back seat of a car” on  the night that she disappeared.

A replay of Greta’s visit to Joran’s home, accompanied by Natalie’s mother, was shown last night. I saw this film footage when it was first shown. Greta and Natalee’s mother showed up at Joran’s home and asked to come in so that they could talk to his parents. Joran’s father graciously allowed them to come in, although he told them to leave all cameras outside.

In spite of the fact that Joran’s father did not want his home and family to be photographed, the film footage was later shown to the world.

Regarding the film footage, taken in Joran’s home, Greta said last night that “there was something seriously wrong with Paulus.” Paulus was Joran’s father, who was hoping to become a Judge; he did not want Natalee’s disappearance to jeopardize his future career. He was obviously upset by Greta and Beth grilling him about Joran.

At this point, I stopped taking notes.

What ever happened to Natalee Holloway? — Chapter Two

I previousy blogged about Natalee Holloway at https://furtherglory.wordpress.com/2012/10/05/what-really-happened-to-natalee-holloway/

Last night I watched an episode on the Nancy Grace TV show, which promised new information on the Natalee Holloway case, but none was given.  It was a rehash of old information, but heavily biased toward Nancy’s belief that Joran van der Sloot murdered Natalee after raping her.

Joran at age 17

Joran van der Sloot at age 17

The show started with Nancy saying that some people think that Natalee was a “runaway.” Then Natalee’s mother (or a haggard women who resembles her) said that the claim that “Natalee was a runaway is not an option.”

Nancy Grace then explained that Natalee could not have been planning to run away because “she was ready to go home.”  Her bags were packed, and in the lobby of the hotel.

Nancy neglected to explain how Natalee’s bags had gotten to the lobby.  She went on to gush about the 125 students on the trip, implying that Natalee could not have been planning to run away because she was on a senior trip with ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE students.

None of the 125 students on the trip spoke on the show, and in fact, group photos were shown with the faces of the other students blocked out.  It was not mentioned that Natalee’s mother had refused to allow the other students to talk to the police in Aruba.

Natalee Holloway's High School graduation photo

Natalee Holloway’s H. S. graduation photo

Nancy then went on to say, in a very ominous tone, that Natalee was last seen alive  at 1 a.m. [Monday, May 30] standing in front of a BAR, and then getting into a gray Honda Civic. [Nancy did not mention that the Honda Civic belonged to the Kalpoe brothers.]

At this point Nancy Grace introduces the heroine of the case, as she says:

“At 11 a.m. Monday, ELEVEN HOURS LATER, Beth Holloway is in Aruba.”

Nancy Grace implied that the police were not called because  Beth Holloway was planning to handle the case by herself.

To me, Beth’s actions are an indication that Beth suspected that her daughter was a runaway and that is why she wanted to handle the case by herself, instead of calling the police.

It was then mentioned that Joran van der Sloot said that Natalee was drunk when she got into the gray Honda Civic at the bar.  Nancy interjects her opinion, based on nothing, as she says “We believe that not to be true.”

There were plenty of witnesses to the drunken behavior of Natalee at the bar the night that she disappeared, but Nancy Grace did not mention that.

The two black security guards at Natalee’s hotel, who were unjustly accused, were brought into the case at this point.  One of them was interviewed on camera, after which, the arrest of Steve Cruz was mentioned, as Nancy explains that Cruz ran a cruise line.  It was said that the security guards were unjustly blamed, while also pointing out that there was a boat involved, implying that the boat could have been used to dump Natalee’s body at sea.

Then Nancy Grace says, in an even more ominous voice: TEN DAYS LATER A JUDGE WAS INVOLVED.

At this point, Jug Twitty (Beth’s husband at that time) speaks for the first time.  Jug said that he and Beth went to the home of Joran van der Sloot where Jug confronted Joran’s father, THE JUDGE.

Jug described Paulus van der Sloot (Joran’s father) as being very rude when they arrived at his house.  Paulus kept telling his son to “say nothing.”  The nerve of that man!  Beth and Jug were only trying to solve the case themselves, without involving the police, and they expected that the father of 17-year-old Joran would cooperate and tell them that Joran had raped and killed Natalee.

Next, Nancy Grace tells her viewers that “Beth met the family [of Joran van der Sloot]”  We are told that Beth “was invited in” by Joran’s family.  On this occasion, Beth brought along a full camera crew and stood outside the iron gate into the van der Sloot property, demanding to be let in so that she could confront Joran’s father, THE JUDGE.

Nothing was said about the behavior of Natalee in Aruba, except to DENY that she was lying on top of a bar while boys took jelly shots off her navel. It was implied that Natalee was a saint; nothing was mentioned about the DNA of some unknown boy on the toothbrush that was found in her hotel room. Nothing was said about how she was alone as she approached Joran who was sitting at a bar minding his own business at the time. [This was caught on camera, but the footage was not shown on the Nancy Grace show.]

Nancy Grace pointed out that JORAN CHANGED HIS STORY 8 TIMES, implying that this is proof of Joran’s guilt.

At this point, I stopped taking notes.  Nancy’s show was so disingenuous that I couldn’t take it any more.  Besides that, Nancy was wearing a necklace that resembled handcuffs, which I found to be very disconcerting.

I was expecting new information about the case, but there was absolutely nothing new.  Nancy kept referring to Joran as “Urine van der Slewt”  instead of pronouncing his name correctly as YOUR-an van der SLOAT.

Beth Holloway has received a lot of criticism, but you would never know it, from the latest Nancy Grace TV show on the subject. You can read about it on the Wikipedia page for Beth.

What really happened to Natalee Holloway? (updated)

Update, Nov. 4, 2014:  According to a news story, which you can read here, Joran van der Sloot was stabbed in prison a couple of days ago.

Update, July 1, 2014: Joran van der Sloot is planning to get married:  http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/06/13/wedding-bells-for-joran-van-der-sloot.html

This blog post was previously updated on August 11, 2013.  Scroll way down to see the new information.  The update is in regard to the theory that Natalee was pregnant and that she escaped from Aruba to get away from the sexual advances of her stepfather, Jug Twitty.

Read my original post:

I have been interested in True Crime ever since I was 12 years old and I used to read True Crime magazine.  I have followed the Natalee Holloway case closely for years.  I have often wondered what REALLY happened to her.

Natalee Holloway was an 18-year-old girl from Mountain Brook, Alabama, who vanished on May 30, 2005 on a High School graduation trip to Aruba, a Caribbean country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Natalee had been scheduled to fly home to Alabama on May 30th, but failed to appear for her flight. She was last seen by her classmates outside Carlos’n Charlie’s, a Caribbean chain restaurant and nightclub in Oranjestad, riding in a car with Joran van der Sloot and brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe. When questioned, the three men said they dropped her off at her hotel and denied knowing what had happened to her.

Joran van der Sloot was arrested twice on suspicion of involvement in her disappearance and the Kalpoe brothers were each arrested three times. Due to lack of evidence, the three men were released without charges each time.

The first nationwide news report said that Natalee Holloway was missing, and it was mentioned that this was not the first time that she had missed her plane, coming home from a trip.  According to a Fox News report, Natalee had missed her plane twice in the past.  The reason that this story made the nationwide news only a day after Natalee vanished is because it happened right after the Runaway Bride was found.  The news media obviously thought that this was a copycat case of another runaway.  That’s why it was mentioned that she had apparently tried to run away in the past.

Natalee Holloway’s mother, Beth Holloway Twitty, said on the Dr. Phil TV show that, within six hours of hearing of Natalee’s disappearance, she was on a plane to Aruba.

We know, from her statements on other TV shows, that Beth was in a car on the highway, on her way home, when she got a call on her cell phone from a chaperone on the trip.  The chaperone had not called the police in Aruba when she learned that Natalee was missing. No, she called Beth Holloway Twitty to report that her daughter was missing.  Why did the chaperone call Natalee’s mother, rather than the police?  Did the chaperone have reason to suspect that Natalee was a runaway?  If she thought that Natalee had been kidnapped, wouldn’t the chaperone have called the Aruban police so that they could get on the case right away?

When Beth got the call, she started driving home at 120 miles per hour and while she was driving, she called the local police to ask for a police escort.

Why was Beth Holloway Twitty so hell-bent on getting to Aruba?  Did she think that she could find the kidnapper herself?  Or did she think that she could find Natalee and bring her home before she did something foolish — like getting married? Natalee was supposedly planning to attend college and then medical school. Did Natalee really want to spend years learning to be a doctor?  Or was this her mother’s idea?  Natalee’s behavior in Aruba did not appear to be that of a girl planning to be a doctor.

Beth used her cell phone to call her husband, Jug Twitty, while she was driving down the highway at 120 miles per hour. Jug immediately arranged for a private jet, owned by one of his friends, to get Beth to Aruba as soon as possible.

Two of the friends of Beth and Jug accompanied them on the trip.  Why did they need to take two friends with them?  Were the friends brought along so they could find the kidnapper before he killed Natalee? Or were the friends brought along so that they could storm the crack house where Natalee was probably hiding and drag her out?

Jug mentioned on a TV show that he had spent $38,000 to have a medical helicopter standing by, ready to take Natalee home for treatment as soon as she could be rescued from the crack house, where they suspected that she was in hiding.

As soon as Beth and Jug arrived in Aruba, they contacted people that they knew on the island and began trying to solve the case themselves.  Only after they learned the name of the boy, with whom Natalee was last seen, did they contact the police and ask for their assistance.  They wanted the police to go with them into Joran’s house, so they could look for Natalee, but the police refused to go inside because there was no probable cause.

Beth and Jug then contacted an acquaintance of theirs in Aruba, who owned a cell phone rental store.  Natalee had rented a cell phone and according to the rental store owner, she had made a call to someone in the USA in the early hours of the morning that she went missing.  The store owner told this on one of the many TV shows that were covering the case, but nothing more about this phone call was ever reported in the news.

Whom did Natalee call on the night that she disappeared, and why?  What was the exact time of the call?  We don’t know because this was never mentioned again in all of the  TV coverage.  I learned later that the store owner is no longer speaking to Beth and Jug; he got disgusted with their behavior and would not have anything more to do with them.

Allegedly, Natalee made a call to her mother while she was in Aruba and told her that she was in love with a tall, blue-eyed Dutch boy.  (Joran van der Sloot has brown eyes so maybe there was another Dutch boy involved.)  Is this why Beth hopped on a private jet, six hours after she heard that Natalee was missing?  Was there another Dutch boy that Natalee was seeing on the island?  We don’t know because Beth has never been confronted with these questions, as far as I know.

Male DNA was found on Natalee’s toothbrush in her hotel room.  It was tested and it turned out to be the DNA of someone other than Joran or the Kalpoe brothers.  Whose DNA was it?  We don’t know because the DNA was never mentioned again.  Obviously, Natalee either had another boy in her room, or she had oral sex with a boy and then brushed her teeth.  Were any of the male students on the trip tested for a DNA match?  I don’t know because this subject was totally dropped.

While she was in Aruba, Beth supposedly received a message that Natalee was being held at a crack house and the kidnappers were demanding $4000 for her release.  Jug quickly raised $4000 from 8 of his friends who were on the island by this time.  Beth and Jug and their friends then went to the crack house, but when they saw how seedy it looked, they  called the police.  The police came in and the kidnappers were scared off.

Two witnesses allegedly reported that they saw Natalee making a copy of her passport in a local store in Aruba.  As every veteran traveler knows, a person should always make a copy of his or her passport, so that in case the passport is lost or stolen, he or she can get back into the USA, using the copy.

There were plenty of witnesses who saw what happened in the days before Natalee disappeared.  But the students on the trip were instructed by Beth Holloway Twitty not to talk.  The students were never questioned by the Aruban police.  When the police asked to talk to the students, Beth would not allow this.  She wanted the FBI to question the students.  Of course, the Aruban police could not accept this because they must follow Dutch laws and Dutch law does not allow for a foreign country to take over a police case.  Why didn’t Beth want the students to talk?

The students did a little bit of talking on their own, and their comments were reported on various Internet blogs.  The students say that Natalee was drinking every day, from morning til night, starting with her first drink at breakfast. The students say that Joran was playing in a poker tournament, along with his father, and minding his own business when Natalee approached him and introduced herself.

Natalee was caught on a surveillance video as she walked into a casino in Aruba one night.  She was all alone as she walked in to join the other Mountain Brook girls who were sitting at a bar with Joran. I thought that this was very strange.  What teen-age girl goes out on her own on a High School graduation trip?  Where had she been while the other girls were hanging out together?  The video also showed that Joran paid no attention to her.  He was talking to the other girls.  It is very clear that Natalee approached Joran, not the other way around.  Was she looking for someone to help her escape?

The students say that Natalee invited Joran to come to Carlos’n Charlie’s that night.  They say that Natalee approached Deepak Kalpoe, when the bar was closing that night and asked if she could DRIVE his car.  Where did she want to go?  Did she have an arrangement to meet her lover, the guy whose DNA was on her toothbrush?  Or was she going to meet someone who would help her escape from her controlling mother?

Natalee had a ground-floor hotel room that overlooked the beach.  When Joran allegedly left her on the beach, she could have easily walked down the beach to her room. (I have since learned that she could not have entered the hotel room from the beach; she would have had to go inside the hotel to get to her room.)  There were three other girls staying in the room with her.  When she didn’t come back to the hotel room, the other girls packed up her suitcase and took it down to the lobby where the luggage was put in a van and taken to the airport. (I have since learned that her wallet and a few pieces of luggage were found in her hotel room.)

Why didn’t the roommates report to the chaperone that Natalee was missing?  Did they know that she had planned to stay behind to get away from her mother?

One student said that a group of the students saw Natalee in Deepak’s car when they were stopped at a traffic light.  They tried to persuade her to get out of the car, but Natalee ripped off her halter top, leaned out of the car window, and flashed her breasts.  Apparently she wasn’t wearing a bra, which might be why Deepak said that she dressed like a slut and acted like a slut.

Witnesses who were at Carlos’n Charlie’s that night said that Natalee approached Joran and asked him to dance; they said that Natalee was dancing “provocatively.”  Witnesses also said that Natalee was lying on the bar so that customers could take “jelly shots” from her navel.  She invited Joran to take a “jelly shot” off her body.  Witnesses also said that Natalee knew the bartender by his first name and that she was drinking rum straight out of the bottle that night.

All of this points to the fact that Natalee was wild and crazy.  She was not an innocent little girl who was kidnapped, raped and killed by Joran and the Kalpoe brothers.  Joran told a reporter from the National Enquirer that Natalee told him that she hated her mother and that her mother was like Hitler.  Joran didn’t know that he was talking to a reporter at the time. Did Natalee want to get away from her mother so badly that she arranged to disappear while on her senior trip?  That is apparently what the police in Aruba thought and that is why they were reluctant to arrest Joran and the Kalpoe brothers.

Allegedly, Paulus van der Sloot received a letter from someone purporting to be Natalee in September 2004.  The writer asked that he hold the letter until a certain time.  In the letter, Natalee or someone claiming to be Natalee said that she was pregnant and that she was hiding in Arkansas until the baby was born. (I have since learned that the father of the baby was allegedly Jug Twitty, her stepfather.)  Allegedly, Natalee sent a copy of this letter to Beth Holloway Twitty and to the FBI.  She said that the letter could be tested for her DNA on the envelope and the stamp, and for her fingerprints on the letter to prove that it was sent by Natalee Holloway.

Paulus turned the letter over to the Aruban police in early December 2004, and the letter was allegedly sent to Holland for testing.

If the letter was a fake, wouldn’t this hoax have been all over the TV?  Why have we heard nothing about the letter?  Is it because the letter was real?  She sent the letter to Paulus because she felt sorry for how his family had suffered because of her.  Is this why Paulus van der Sloot was cleared in the case?

If the letter was sent to the FBI, did they test it and find out that it was real?  We don’t know because Beth Holloway controlled all of the news coverage of the case and we were only allowed to hear her chanting over and over again that her daughter was raped and killed; we were not allowed to hear any exculpatory evidence that would show that Natalee might still be alive.

On a Dr. Phil show about the case, several years ago, I was appalled to hear attorney John Q. Kelly say, regarding Joran and the Kalpoe brothers: “put them in jail and let them rot” until they tell what happened to Natalee.

Aruba does not have the Fourth Amendment rights that we have in America; according to their laws, a “person of interest” can be arrested and held in prison without charges for several months.  After a certain time has elapsed, they must be let go unless charges are filed against them.  Joran and the Kalpoe brothers were held in prison for the maximum time and after that, they could not be put in prison again unless there was enough evidence to charge them.  John Q. Kelly should have known this.

Kelly also stated, on the TV show, that the three boys should be charged with “obstruction of justice.”  There is no such crime in Aruba and he should have known this.  Under Aruban law, a “person of interest” is allowed to lie because that is the only recourse they have when they are questioned by the police for 16 hours a day without access to a lawyer.

On January 12, 2012, at the request of the Holloway family, an Alabama judge declared Natalee legally dead.

Joran van der Sloot is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence for another murder, to which he confessed. You can read the latest news about him here.

Update, August 11, 2013:

I have recently learned more information about the Natalee Holloway case. This quote is from this website:

Letter from Natalee to Paul van der Sloot

August 1, 2005

To whom it may concern,

The problems for the people of Aruba has gone on long enough.

Natalee is alive, well and safe from Jug. We are staying with my family where Mrs. Holloway cannot find her and she is protected from Jug’s sexual advances.

First Natalee and I would like to apologize to the people of Aruba for the troubles that they have endured, we did not believe that Mrs. Holloway and her husband would carry things this far just to get attention for themselves.

We sent a letter to Mrs. Holloway before leaving to explain what we were doing and why.

We believe that she must have received the letter shortly before Natalee was reported as missing since she made such a quick trip to Aruba and started looking for some one to blame right away, to take the responsibility away from Jug.

We are certain that you will understand why Natalee had to do this when Mrs. Holloway and Jug finally admit to truth and allow it to come out to the public.

We are requesting that the reward for Natalee’s safe return be given to the people of Aruba when Natalee comes back. But several things will need to take place and change before that happens.

We had this planned for several weeks, but did not believe it would work this well.

It most likely would not have if the boys had not mistakenly claimed that they had picked Natalee up in the morning of her disappearance and Mrs. Holloway had not jumped on too that and held on like a bulldog, sending the police and other search teams off in the wrong direction.

Natalee got into a car with me and the two persons that aided us in getting off Aruba after leaving Carlos and Charlie’s. We apparently succeeded in not being seen together before we left, although we were seeing each other almost every day to complete our plans and make final preparations.

Natalee did not want to spoil the trip for the rest of her classmates by leaving any sooner although we were ready earlier.

second page

You can try to locate us if you want. But we are sending these letters through five different friends in different areas in sealed, preaddressed and prepaid packages with instructions for each to send the next package of envelopes to the next person, so only the first person will know where the original was mailed from and no one will know if he/she was the first. The final person will then send the individual letters to Aruba, Holland and the United States.

Since three persons have suffered the most at the hands of Mrs. Holloway and her husband we want to reward the information of Natalee’s location to go to these persons.

Joran and the two other boys made a mistake by saying that Natalee was the person that they were with. At the time that they were describing as being with Natalee we were completely off Aruba and on our way home, although their mistaken identity and Mrs. Holoway and her husband’s persecution of innocent boys definitely helped as we were held up for eighteen days trying to get out of the country we went to, we were afraid that we would be found at any time.

Except for Mrs. Holloway’s persistence to cover the fact that Natalee had left on her own that led the police in the wrong direction the police would have been able to find when, where and how we left Aruba and we would have most likely been located before we got back into the United States, and then to our present location.

We were very glad to see that two of the boys were released and hope that the third boy will be released soon.

If any of the reports of statements alleged to have been made by Joran are true Aruba has a problem with Joran but it does not involve Natalee.

If you will pay attention to Natalee’s friends and classmates you might get the message that Joran and the two other boys are not involved in Natalee’s disappearance. In every interview that they have taken part in they have all said that they have not seen Natalee and Joran together, only that Natalee left in a car with three persons.

Please advise if these conditions are acceptable to Mrs. Holloway and her husband.

When Natalee is ready to let you know where she is we will send another letter, although is will most likely be after she delivers what she believes to be Jug’s baby by rape.

The baby is due in mid December. Natalee is doing well and has a good doctor.

To assure authenticity you will find Natalee’s finger prints and a sample of her DNA on some if not all of the twenty letters we sent. We know for certain that the letters to the police labs in the United States and Holland contain these items.

Beth Twitty confronted Joran van der Sloot in prison and it was all caught on camera

Update Nov. 9, 2010:

Entertainment Tonight had more on Monday night about Beth Twitty’s confrontation with Joran van der Sloot, back in September.  This part of the documentary showed that Joran abruptly ended the session and walked out. (Apparently, the story that the confrontation was stopped by prison officials is untrue.) After Joran walked out, Beth broke down and cried.  Throughout the  confrontation, Joran had kept his cool and didn’t get emotional as he said all the right things, like “I should have learned from my mistakes, yada, yada, yada…”

After Joran was out of the room, Beth talked to herself, with tears streaming down her face, as she accused Joran of taking everything from her: her daughter, her husband, her life, etc., etc., etc.   It never occurred to her that SHE was the one who took everything from Joran and ruined HIS life.  He was 17, with his whole life ahead of him, when Beth decided that he had murdered her daughter.  Joran spent time in jail twice, but was released each time for LACK OF EVIDENCE.

My original post:

Last night, I watched bits of the documentary aired by the TV show Entertainment Tonight after the show purchased the film from the Dutch network SBS6.  In the documentary, Beth Twitty, the mother of Natalee Holloway, the teenager who disappeared in Aruba five years ago, is shown as she confronts Joran van der Sloot in prison in Lima, Peru.  The whole thing was very strange, to say the least.   (more…)

Joe Tacopina says Joran van der Sloot has “disintegrated” in last five years

Last night on the Joy Behahr TV show, Joe Tacopina said that Joran van der Sloot was a nice guy five years ago when he was accused of being responsible for the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, but after five years of accusations without any evidence, Joran slowly disintegrated and turned into a completely different person.  Joran is being held in Peru for the murder of Stephany Flores Ramirez, a crime to which he has confessed.

Joe Tacopina was formerly a defense attorney for Joran van der Sloot and he still sticks up for him, although he is much too high priced for Joran now.

I don’t care much for Joy Behahr’s jokes, but I watch her show every night because she usually has interesting guests.  I give her a lot of credit for putting on criminal defense attorney Joe Tacopina to take Joran’s side in the discussion.  Tacopina was famous long before the Natalee Holloway case; I first heard about him when he defended New York police officers in a losing battle about 15 years ago.

I learned last night that Joran’s mother tried to get Joran committed to a mental facility a year and a half ago.  The relentless accusations by Natalee’s family were driving him nuts.  Joran was 17 and had just graduated from High School when Natalee went missing and her family was sure that Joran had killed her.

Joran’s father was also accused of being involved in Natalee’s alleged murder, but Tacopina said last night that Joran’s father had no power in Aruba at that time and that he had done nothing to help Joran in the alleged murder of Natalee.

I believe that Tacopina hit the nail on the head when he said that Joran disintegrated over the last five years of his life.  Joran recently confessed that he tried to extort Natalee’s mother to get back at her for all the trouble that she has caused him. Tacopina revealed that Joran’s lies about the Natalee Holloway case were prompted by the money that he was offered over the years to publicly talk about the case.

It is very sad that an innocent 17-year-old boy was driven to madness and the murder of another girl by five years of accusations by the Holloway family.  Joran might walk on the murder case in Peru because he was not given his rights after his arrest.  He will still be prosecuted in the extortion case because the Holloway family will never give up.  I predict that they will finally drive Joran to suicide; his life is over anyway.

Joran van der Sloot is the prime suspect in a new murder case

Joran van der Sloot is the young man from Aruba who was arrested twice in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway five years ago on May 30th. Now he is the prime suspect in the murder of Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez in Lima, Peru on May 30th.

Update, June 3, 2010

Last night I watched the Greta Van Susteren show, “On the Record.”  Greta is my favorite Fox News person; she covered the Natalee Holloway case every night for a year or more.  I learned these new details about the Stephany Flores case:

1.  Stephany Flores’s body was found on Wednesday (June 2nd), face down in Joran van der Sloot’s hotel room, with abrasions on her face and body and signs of trauma. She was clothed and there were signs of a struggle.

2.  Her father announced that she was missing on Sunday, May 30th. Stephany had gone out with friends on Saturday night. She drove her friends home around 2:30 Sunday morning, before returning to the casino, where she met up with van der Sloot, only to leave a few hours later.

3.  Stlephany’s father said in television interviews in Peru that he and his daughter had had an argument and that she was a young woman going out with her friends late at night and he was a protective father.

This morning on the NBC Today show, a cousin of Ramirez said that Stephany learned about Joran van der Sloot a month ago when she saw a TV special on the Holloway case.

I have written my comments at the end of this post. Here is what I originally wrote on my original post on June 2nd:

Tonight I was watching Bill O’Reilly on his show, The Factor, and he began the segment about the murder of Stephany Ramirez with these words: “That weasel Joran van der Sloot that got away with murdering Natalee Holloway…”

Then there was a commercial break and a commercial for the Broadview security company was shown.  In the commercial, a young woman is coming home after a date and her “ex-boyfriend” kicks in the front door with the intent of attacking her.

Then O’Reilly says, regarding the alleged murder of Natalee Holloway,  “Everybody knows he (Joran) did it.”  He mentions that Joran is the son of a judge and that’s why he “got away with it,” referring to the alleged murder of Natalee.  There is no proof that Natalee is dead, much less that she was murdered.

Of course, O’Reilly is not a news reporter; he is a news analyst, as he has said many times.  He is entitled to his opinion and I am entitled to mine.  I think Joran is innocent in the Holloway case and also this new murder case.

So far, the news about the murder is minimal but here is what we know so far:

1. Joran had been staying at the Miraflores Hotel Tac in Lima, Peru since May 14, 2010.  He was there for a poker tournament.

2. On Sunday, May 30, 2010, Joran was caught on tape in a video taken at a Lima casino; he arrived at the casino at 2 a.m. and Stephany arrived with some girl friends at 2:36 a.m. Joran and Stephany left the casino together in her car, and were in the car for 39 minutes.

Then Joran was seen by a witness entering his hotel room with Stephany at 5 a.m.  It was also caught on a video camera. Four hours later, Joran checked out of his hotel room.

3. Joran van der Sloot left Peru on Monday, according to an immigration registry.

4. Early Wednesday morning, on June 2, 2010, Stephany’s body was found in the room where Joran had stayed from May 14th to May 30th.  Stephany had been “brutally beaten” and had been stabbed multiple times; her body was wrapped in a blanket.

5. Stephany’s car was found 50 blocks from Joran’s hotel and there were wrappers for GHB, the date rape drug, found in the car.

So Joran checked out of this hotel room at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning, left Lima on Monday and the body of the murder victim was found on Wednesday?  What kind of a hotel does not have a maid come into the room for three days after someone has checked out.  This was supposed to be an expensive hotel in an exclusive area of Lima.

If Stephany had been killed by Joran on Sunday, wouldn’t the body have started to smell before Wednesday?  Did Stephany stay in the room after Joran left and use the room for another tryst the next night? Was Joran set up to be charged with the murder of Stephany because he was never charged with the murder of Natalee Holloway?

What was Joran’s motive for killing a girl that he had just met? Did he have a knife on his person, while he was playing poker, so he could kill a girl that night? He was allegedly in the hotel room for four hours early Sunday morning.  Did he kill Stephany just before he left the room, or did he kill her immediately and then wait until 9 a.m. to check out of the room?

Going back to the Broadview commercial, here is my theory about what happened: Joran met Stephany in the casino, took her to his room, and then left her asleep in the room when he checked out.  Her ex-boyfriend or ex-husband, or maybe her father, came into the room, and stabbed her to death because she was a slut.  Nice girls don’t go to a casino at 2:30 a.m. and leave with a stranger at 5 a.m. to go to a hotel.

Why were there date rape drug wrappers in Stephany’s car?  Why would Joran have needed to drug her if she was willing to go with him to his hotel room? Curiously, Joran was accused of drugging Natalee Holloway with GHB.  Why would he be so careless as to leave a wrapper in Stephany’s car.  This makes me suspicious that Joran was set up to be the patsy.

I wonder if the Lima casino video will show Stephany approaching Joran while he is playing poker and flirting with him.  The casino video in Aruba showed Natalee coming on to Joran and inviting him to meet her at Carlo’s ‘n Charlie’s that night.

My comments, June 3, 2010

The comparisons between this case and the Holloway case are uncanny.  Stephany had an overly protective father and Natalee had an overly protective mother.  Stephany’s father announced that she was missing immediately, just like Natalie’s mother announced her daughter’s disappearance to the press immediately.

Stephany went back to the casino, after getting rid of her friends, and then met Joran. Maybe she had already spotted Joran when he came into the casino at 2 a.m. and she wanted to get rid of her friends so she could pick him up.

In the Holloway case, there is a casino video showing Natalee coming into the casino all alone.  She joined her friends at a table where Joran was playing, but the friends completely ignored her.  Natalee made a big effort to get Joran’s attention, as shown on the tape.

A hotel employee saw Stephany and Joran enter his hotel room together.  Did the employee notify Stephany’s father who then took action to punish his daughter for acting like a slut?  Did Joran leave the room in a panic after her father, or some of his goons, entered the room?  Did he immediately realize that he was going to be accused again and that’s why he took a bus on a 1,000 kilometer trip to the border?

Or did Stephany deliberately go with Joran to his hotel room on the anniversary of Natalee’s death because she wanted to confront him and accuse him of killing Natalee Holloway?  Joran’s life has been completely ruined by the Natalee Holloway case.  Did he finally snap and kill Stephany because she  asked him about Natalee?
