Photo of Trump shows him giving a Nazi salute

Filed under: Germany, Holocaust, Trump — furtherglory @ 3:02 pm

A person holds a copy of the ‘Stern’ news magazine in Berlin, Germany, Friday, Aug. 25, 2017 showing U.S. President Donald Trump draped in the American flag while giving a stiff-armed Nazi salute.

The magazine article says “Germans must surely know that by misappropriating” Nazi symbols “they belittle and becloud” past crimes.

The following quote is from the news article which shows the photo above:

This week’s cover of a popular German news magazine depicting U.S. President Donald Trump draped in the American flag while giving a stiff-armed Nazi salute is drawing sharp criticism from a prominent Jewish group.

Stern magazine’s illustration is part of a cover story headlined “Sein Kampf,” which translates as “His Struggle” and is a play on Adolf Hitler’s infamous “Mein Kampf.”

Los Angeles-based Simon Wiesenthal Center says it’s been “outspoken in criticizing President Trump for failing to make a distinction between Nazis and KKK protesters and those who opposed them.” But it said “the depiction of the president as a latter-day Hitler by a major German publication is untrue and beyond the pale.”

A Holocaust memorial is not the place for a Pop Star to pose

Xonia, 28, posed suggestively in hotpants, a low-cut top and thigh-high boots at the Bucharest Holocaust Memorial

The following quote is from the news article which includes the photo above: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4354711/former-neighbours-actress-loredana-sachelaru-sparks-outrage-after-posing-for-raunchy-photoshoot-on-romanian-holocaust-memorial/

The stunning blonde, [in the photo above] whose real name is Loredana Sachelaru, was widely criticised after sharing the provocative photographs with her army of followers on social media.

And many fans questioned her choice of venue for the photoshoot, wondering whether she understood that it was a memorial to Jews killed in Nazi death camps.

Xonia was born in Australia but her parents are Romanian and she has dual citizenship.

Many also questioned why the security guards who protect the memorial around the clock allowed her to pose for the raunchy photographs there.

Netizen said: “Those people were gassed and you chose the monument that commemorates them to show your a** there?! Very ugly!”

Xonia did not reply to her critics but she has left the photographs on her social media page and is also reportedly planning to use one of them on the cover of her new album.

What a revolting development this is! Imagine posing this way where people were gassed to death! People today have no respect for anything.  The people who were gassed would be turning over in their graves — if they had a grave.

How low can Trump’s approval rating go?

Filed under: Uncategorized — furtherglory @ 11:41 am

Trump’s approval rating is now 16%.

The following quote is from a news article which you can read in full at https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/08/29/a-new-polling-low-for-trump-just-16-percent-like-his-conduct-as-president/?utm_term=.282685e5ff74

Pew asked American adults how they felt about Trump’s conduct in office: Whether they “liked” it, had “mixed feelings” or “didn’t like it.” It won’t surprise you to see about 6 in 10 (58 percent) don’t like it; that tracks with the number of Americans who disapprove of Trump overall.

Sometimes monuments have to fall

Filed under: Uncategorized — furtherglory @ 11:08 am

The title of my blog post today is a quote from this news article: http://theconversation.com/from-charlottesville-to-nazi-germany-sometimes-monuments-have-to-fall-82643

The fall of Saddam Hussein statue

Perhaps the most famous example of a monument’s removal for political reasons was the spectacular toppling of Saddam Hussein’s statue in Firdos Square in Baghdad in 2003. Symbolically, it marked the end of Iraq’s Baath dictatorship. This event, staged by the US Army and watched in real-time worldwide, represented the end of the regime even more than Saddam’s actual death by hanging in 2006.

We keep the things that we love the most, but sometimes we also keep the things that reminds us about the horror of the past. Monuments can echo the traumatic events that have shaped our culture, history and civilisation.

A famous example is Memento Park in the outskirts of Budapest in Hungary, where a number of removed statues from the Communist period are kept for visitors to see them and learn about the horrors of the Soviet years. Some also appreciate them as aesthetic objects or a tourist attraction.

End quote

There is another news article about a statue that has been taken down:

On Monday, 54 years after Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I have a dream” speech and less than a month after a counterprotester was killed following a demonstration by white supremacists in Charlottesville, Va., a statue of the legendary civil rights leader will be unveiled outside the Georgia State Capitol in King’s hometown of Atlanta.

The state Capitol grounds are dominated by the figures from Georgia’s Confederate and segregationist past, including Confederate general and alleged Ku Klux Klan leader John Brown Gordon and U.S. Sen. Richard Russell, one of the staunchest opponents to the civil rights legislation King advocated for.

What does this have to do with anything, you ask. In America today, statues of American citizens who were slave owners are coming down.  I think that it is wrong to tear down those statues.

who is Mngxitama and why does he think that Jewish people are racist?

Filed under: Uncategorized — furtherglory @ 4:35 pm

I am quoting a news article which you can read in full at http://news.iafrica.com/sa/1054493.html

BLF leader Andile Mngxitama

Begin quote from news article:

Twitter has yet again struck a social chord this time following an inflammatory remark made by the leader of the Black First Land First movement (BLF) regarding the events of the Holocaust.

Andile Mngxitama wrote on Thursday, “For those claiming the legacy of the holocaust is ONLY negative, think about the lampshades and Jewish soap (sic)”.

Mngxitama stated that the comment was meant to prove that Jewish people are racist because of their lack of reaction to a similar comment made by Premier Helen Zille on colonialism.

The South African Jewish Board of Deputies has stated that it intends to take full legal action against the BLF leader.

“We just gave back to them what Helen Zille gave”, said Mngxitama.

Zille was ostracised by her party and by many South Africans following a similarly worded tweet surrounding colonialism.

This is not the first, nor likely the last, time that Mngxitama and his movement have courted controversy.

I signed up for Twitter, but I have yet to participate. I don’t tweet, and now you know why.

I can’t understand something as silly as this.

Tibor Baranski, the man who saved 3,000 Hungarian Jews

Filed under: Auschwitz, Germany, Holocaust — furtherglory @ 1:01 pm

Tibor Baranski, a retired Buffalo teacher, is credited with saving the lives of at least 3,000 Hungarian Jews during the final months of World War II.

You can read about Baranski in this recent news article:

Hungarian Jews at Auschwitz

Jewish children at Auschwitz

Jews waiting for selection

Here is the story of the Hungarian Jews, as I wrote it on my scrapbookpages.com website:

Begin quote from my website:

In the book entitled “The Last Days,” David Cesarani wrote that an attempt to save the Hungarian Jews was made by Otto Komoly and Dr. Rezo (Rudolf) Kastner, two leading figures in the Jewish Relief and Rescue Committee in Hungary.

Rudolf Vrba

In 1942, the Jewish Council of Slovakia had tried to bribe Dieter Wisliceny, an SS man, to stop the deportation of the Slovakian Jews. When Wisliceny arrived in Budapest, Komoly and Kastner revived the proposal first made to Wisliceny in Slovakia, offering him a $2 million bribe to save the Hungarian Jews from deportation to the death camps.

Wisliceny suggested a down payment of $200,000 to show good faith, but while Komoly and Kastner were trying to raise the money, Wisliceny left Budapest to organize the deportation of the Jews in eastern Hungary to Auschwitz.

According to Cesarani, the Jews confronted Wisliceny with his betrayal, and “he coolly offered to save 600 Jews of their choosing. Soon afterwards Eichmann himself took up the negotiations.”

The following information is from the book entitled “Auschwitz, a New History” by Laurence Reese:

Begin quote

On April 25, 1944, in his office at the Hotel Majestic in Budapest, Eichmann met with Joel Brand, another leading member of the Jewish Relief and Rescue Committee. Brand had already attended previous meetings with Eichmann and other SS officers in an attempt to bribe them to allow a number of Jews out of Hungary.

Now Eichmann said to Brand, “I am prepared to sell one million Jews to you.”

Eichmann proposed an exchange of “Blood for Goods,” in which the British and the Americans would give the Nazis one new truck for every one hundred Jews. Eichmann promised that the trucks would only be used on the Eastern front where the Germans were fighting against the Communist Soviet Union.

Brand was asked to go to Istanbul in Turkey to negotiate the deal. Eichmann hoped to obtain 10,000 trucks in exchange for one million Jews. But even before Brand reached Turkey on May 19, 1944, Eichmann had already ordered the deportation of the Hungarian Jews, which began on April 29, 1944.

According to the book written by Laurence Rees, SS officer Kurt Becher, who was a Lt. Col., equal in rank to Eichmann, was trying to blackmail the Weiss family, owners of the biggest industrial conglomerate in Hungary, into giving its shares to the SS in return for safe passage out of the country.

Rees wrote:

By the time of his meeting with Brand, Eichmann knew that his rival Becher had successfully arranged for shares of the Manfred-Weiss works to be transferred to the Nazis; in return, about fifty members of the Weiss family were allowed to leave and head for neutral countries.

Brand was accompanied to Istanbul by another man named Bandi Grosz, a former agent of the Abwehr, the German intelligence agency, whose operations in Hungary had been taken over by an SS officer, Lt. Col. Gerhard Clages.

At the last meeting with Brand, SS officers Clages, Becher and several other Nazis had been present.

The following quote is from the book by Laurence Rees:

Begin quote

It was not until May 26, 1944 that the head of the Jewish Agency in Palestine notified a British diplomat, Sir Harold MacMichael, of the Nazis’ proposals. But it only took the British a matter of moments to reject the Brand mission, seeing it as an attempt to split the Western allies from the Soviets.

[…]

In mid-June, Grosz was interrogated in Cairo by British intelligence officers and the story that he told was a surprising one. He claimed that Brand’s mission was only a camouflage for his own. Under the direct orders of Himmler, Grosz had been sent to facilitate a meeting in a neutral country between high-ranking British and American officers and two or three senior figures from the SD – Himmler’s own intelligence service. The purpose of the assignation was to discuss a separate peace treaty with the Western allies so that – together – they could fight the Soviet Union.

Himmler’s offer was immediately turned down. The British perceived Germany to be a threat to the British policy of “balance of power” and had refused all offers to become allies with Germany before the war; they had also refused several peace offers from Germany before the invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941. Great Britain and America needed the help of the Soviet Union in their plan to destroy Germany and in return, Churchill and Roosevelt had promised eastern Europe to the Communists as early as 1943 at the Tehran Conference.

End quote

According to Wikipedia, at the Tehran Conference, Churchill and Roosevelt agreed to the following:

Begin quote from Wikipedia:

Poland’s borders were declared to lie along the Oder and Neisse rivers and the Curzon line, despite protests of the Polish government-in-exile in London. Churchill and Roosevelt also gave Stalin free rein in his own country, and allowed the USSR to set up puppet communist governments in Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Baltic states, Romania, and other Eastern European countries.

By turning down Himmler’s offer of an alliance against the Soviet Union, the lives of a million Hungarian Jews were sacrificed; in the end, the British lost their empire and Hungary became a Communist country.

Great Britain and America eventually became allies with Germany in 1948 against the Soviet Union in the Cold War, which lasted until 1989.

The Mauthausen memorial site is in the news

Filed under: Germany, Holocaust, Uncategorized, World War II — furtherglory @ 2:44 pm

Mauthausen Memorial site is included in an article which you can read  at http://www.atlasobscura.com/places/mauthausen-memorial

You can see some recent photos of the former Mauthausen camp at http://www.atlasobscura.com/places/mauthausen-memorial

I have a section about Mauthausen on my website at http://www.scrapbookpages.com/Mauthausen/KZMauthausen/index.html

I visited the Mauthausen memorial site in 2003 and took the photo below.

My 2003 photo of Mauthausen

The following quote is from the news article:

Begin quote

The outside areas [at Mauthausen] feature sculptures that honor the 190,000 people from over 40 different nations who were imprisoned during the camp’s seven years of terror. Memorial sculptures of varying sizes and styles pay homage to the Jewish, French, Dutch, Polish, and other victims of Mauthausen.

One particularly striking statue is the Albanian Memorial, which portrays an Albanian resistance fighter standing over a defeated Nazi soldier. He’s about the strike the Nazi in the face with his rifle stock.

End quote from news article.

My photo above shows the sculpture of the Albanian resistance fighter ready to strike a German soldier.

The photo shows part of the monument of Albania, which was erected in 1969. It depicts a defeated German soldier being subdued by the strong arm of an Albanian resistance fighter.

Note the swastika on the belt buckle of the fallen soldier. Flowers have been left for the defeated soldier by visitors who may have been confused by this statue which shows a German soldier as the victim, not an Albanian resistance fighter as the victim of the Nazis.

Another photo of the fallen German soldier statue where someone has left flowers for the German soldier

This monument conveys the message that World War II was a war of annihilation, winner take all, no second place, no conditional surrender accepted, nothing short of total victory allowed, kick ’em while they’re down and then erect a monument to humiliate the vanquished for generations to come.

This monument is not about the 300 – 400 Albanians who were among the victims at Mauthausen, but rather a celebration of the anti-Fascist victory over the Hitlerites.

“most people on this planet have no clue as to how German Nazis went about their lethal business”

Filed under: Auschwitz, Germany, Holocaust — furtherglory @ 5:04 pm

The title of this blog post is a quote from something that Bill O’Reilly said on television.

You can read the news article about Bill O’Reilly and what he said about the Nazis at http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2017/08/21/bill_o_reilly_thinks_trump_doesn_t_know_about_the_holocaust.html

The news article about the Nazis starts off with this quote:

Begin quote

As hard as these past several days have been for people who’d prefer to have a consistently anti-Nazi president, they have been even more trying for those tasked with defending our commander in chief.

One of those defenders is Bill O’Reilly, the former Fox News host ousted from the network for the same behavior that somehow did not prevent Donald Trump’s election.

O’Reilly now hosts his own podcast, but apparently felt the need to address the controversy over Trump’s response to Charlottesville via the written word.

End quote

The news article then continues with this quote:

Begin quote

Trump’s defenders have generally taken three approaches: They have argued that of course Trump hates Nazis but the media is making a big deal over nothing; or that the real issue is Confederate heritage, which deserves real respect; or that in the 19th century many evil racists were Democrats, so there. (The last two arguments don’t really mesh, but never mind.)

O’Reilly, however, takes an entirely original and dare I say bold tack. The problem isn’t Democrats or the media. And it certainly isn’t a racist and bigoted president. No, it’s a lack of historical knowledge.

End quote

I have written about Bill O’Reilly on my scrapbookpages.com website.

The following information is from my website:

The thing that angered Bill O’Reilly and so many other Americans was that Churchill compared the 9/11 victims to Nazis, which was O’Reilly’s interpretation of Churchill’s statement that the victims were “little Eichmanns.”

Churchill did not use the full name of Adolf Eichmann. He just assumed that everyone knew who Eichmann was. The name Eichmann became a household word in 1961 when he was put on trial in Israel for Crimes Against Humanity for his part in the genocide of 6 million Jews during World War II.

What Churchill didn’t realize is that most people don’t know that Eichmann was not the Mastermind of the Holocaust, but rather a low-level technocrat whose job was to make sure that the trains to the camps ran on time.

Comparing the victims to Eichmann, Churchill wrote that the people working in the Twin Towers were the “technocratic corps at the very heart of America’s global financial empire.”

In other words, they were mere cogs in a big machine, the unimportant little guys behind the scene, just like Adolf Eichmann who had no authority in Nazi Germany and was not a decision maker.

Ernst Kaltenbrunner, who was 6 levels above Eichmann in the Reich Security Main Office, was put on trial at the Nuremberg International Military Tribunal and specifically charged with gassing the Jews. Eichmann was the head of the Jewish Department in the Reich Security Main Office, but he was not important enough to make the cut.

Eichmann got the job because he and Kaltenbrunner had been friends from their school days in Linz, Austria, the city that was also the boyhood home of Adolf Hitler.

So unimportant was Eichmann that he did not even leave Germany to escape prosecution until 1950.

So if Eichmann was such small potatoes, how did he rate a trial in Israel?

Eichmann was kidnapped in 1960 from Argentina, where he was a citizen, by the Israeli Mossad; he was sneaked out of the country on a plane, disguised as an unconscious patient on a stretcher. There were hundreds of bureaucrats and technicians who were at the same level in the Nazi hierarchy as Eichmann.

The reason that Eichmann was put on trial was because he was the man who had typed up the minutes of the Wannseee Conference, the meeting where the Final Solution was planned on January 20, 1942.

In the minutes of this meeting, a copy of which was discovered in 1947, the participants had used euphemisms such as “transportation to the East” when what the men at the Conference had allegedly meant was the extermination of the Jews in gas chambers.

It was of utmost importance to hunt down Eichmann, put him on trial, and establish that he had falsified this key document.

After 11 months in custody in Israel, Eichmann was finally put on trial and he confessed the truth, which was that the Conference was held for the purpose of planning the genocide of the Jews.

Up to that time, there had been no documentation found which showed that Hitler had ordered the killing of all the Jews.

The Eichmann trial finally provided the proof of the systematic plan to exterminate the Jews; that is why Eichmann is considered by many people to be the second most important Nazi, next to Adolf Hitler.

Ward Churchill denies that the Nazis had an official policy to kill all the Jews.

To Bill O’Reilly, this is like saying that 2 plus 2 does not equal 4. German law states that it is “manifestly obvious” that the Nazis had a systematic plan to genocide the Jews; this is a fact that does not have to be proved, thanks to the Eichmann trial.

Churchill assumed that everyone is familiar with Holocaust denial and that everyone knows that Eichmann was a low-level technocrat who never personally killed anyone and never ordered the death of anyone. This mistake on his part got him into trouble, and when he tried to explain what he meant by “little Eichmanns” his explanation fell upon deaf ears.

O’Reilly and others in the media continued to call for Churchill’s head because he had compared the 9/11 victims to Nazis.

Calling an innocent victim a Nazi is the worst thing that anyone can do. But calling someone a “little Eichmann” is not the same thing. Eichmann implemented the transportation of the Jews to the death camps, but he also arranged the transportation of German Jews to Palestine before the war.

Churchill wrote in his essay that all Americans are to blame for not stopping the policies of their government which caused the “terrorists” to “push back.”

Vincent Reynouard got into trouble because he wrote that the victims of Oradour-sur-Glane were connected to the French Resistance, and that this was the cause of the destruction of their village.

Most people believe that both the 9/11 attack and the Oradour massacre were atrocities that were perpetrated for no legitimate reason.

The German Waffen-SS Army and the “terrorists” both targeted innocent civilians, simply because both the Nazis and the “terrorists” were “evil-doers,” and anyone who says otherwise is guilty of “hate speech” in the opinion of most people.

In France, hate speech is a crime, even though French citizens technically have freedom of speech. Will the controversy about Ward Churchill and his opinions about 9/11 finally end American Freedom of Speech, as we know it? Could Ward Churhill’s essay be called “approval of a war crime” in a court of law, just like the writings of Vincent Reynouard?

Here is another news article with this headline:

The Hall of Remembrance

Filed under: Auschwitz, Germany, Holocaust — furtherglory @ 10:31 am

The Altar in the Jewish Hall of Remembrance in Washington, DC

The 6,000 square-foot Hall of Remembrance, shown in the photo above, is on the second floor of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. It is at the end of the tour of the permanent exhibit in the museum.

This is a quiet, solemn place, like a church, where visitors can breathe a sigh of relief after the unsettling experience of viewing the horrors of the Nazi regime.

The Hall of Remembrance has 6 sides which represent the 6 million Jews who were murdered in the Holocaust, and the 6-pointed Star of David, which is the Jewish emblem. The Hall is three stories high and there is a 6-sided skylight at the top, which is shown in the photo below.

Skylight.jpg

Skylight at Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC

As you enter the Museum, the first thing that you see is a rectangular block of black marble, topped by an eternal flame, as shown in the photo at the top of my blog post.

There are no real windows in the room but shafts of light are provided by narrow glass-covered slits at the four exterior corners of the building, as shown on the left in the photo above.

The floor of the Museum is polished marble in a hexagonal pattern. The 6 walls of the Hall of Remembrance have black marble panels, engraved with the names of the major concentration camps in Poland and Germany. The 6 death camps, where the Jews were allegedly gassed, are on a separate panel.

On the other side of the hall, opposite the eternal flame, are two speaker’s stands, one on each side, resembling a pulpit in a church. It is from one of these stands that the President of the United States delivers his speech on his annual visit to the Hall on Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The photograph, at the top of this blog post, shows a closeup of a black marble block, evocative of a coffin, which contains dirt from 38 of the concentration camps in Europe. The dirt was brought to America in urns, like those used by the Nazis for the ashes of the victims who were cremated, and in a touching ceremony, the dirt was deposited inside the block by Jewish survivors of the Holocaust. Dirt from a cemetery in Europe where American soldiers are buried was also included, in honor of the American liberators of the Dachau and Buchenwald concentration camps.

The black marble panel on the wall behind the eternal flame has the inscription: “Only guard yourself and guard your soul carefully, lest you forget the things your eyes saw, and lest these things depart your heart all the days of your life. And you shall make them known to your children and to your children’s children.”

The Hall of Remembrance is the only part of the museum where photography is allowed. No flash photography is permitted, but there is enough light in the room so that flash is not necessary. There are benches around the room where groups of students congregate to have a souvenir photograph taken.

The 6-sided skylight at the top of the Hall of Remembrance is shown in the photo above. The number 6 is of great importance in the story of the Holocaust. After the Jewish population of Palestine reached the magic number of 600,000, the country of Israel was born in 1948.

Hillary says “my skin crawled” when she first met Donald Trump

Filed under: Trump — furtherglory @ 10:13 am

images.jpg   As I am writing this, I can hear Hillary speaking on TV, as she talks about her first debate with Donald Trump.

You can read about it here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/politics/wp/2017/08/23/hillary-clinton-said-her-skin-crawled-when-donald-trump-stood-behind-her-on-debate-stage/?utm_term=.9e86412b8763

The following quote is from the news article:

Begin quote

“This is not okay, I thought,” Clinton said, reading from her book. “It was the second presidential debate and Donald Trump was looming behind me. Two days before, the world heard him brag about groping women. Now we were on a small stage and no matter where I walked, he followed me closely, staring at me, making faces.

“It was incredibly uncomfortable. He was literally breathing down my neck. My skin crawled. It was one of those moments where you wish you could hit pause and ask everyone watching, ‘Well, what would you do?’ Do you stay calm, keep smiling and carry on as if he weren’t repeatedly invading your space? Or do you turn, look him in the eye and say loudly and clearly, ‘Back up, you creep. Get away from me. I know you love to intimidate women, but you can’t intimidate me, so back up.’”

End quote

The news article continues with this quote:

Begin quote

In the post-debate spin room, Clinton surrogates accused Trump of “menacingly stalking” the Democratic nominee. Two body language experts analyzed the debate and concluded Trump was trying to assert his power by roaming the stage while Clinton spoke.

“Trump’s constant pacing and restless movements around the stage attracted attention from Hillary’s words, and visually disrespected her physical presence on the stage, as in ‘I am big, you are small,’ ” David Givens, director of the Center for Nonverbal Studies, a nonprofit research center in Spokane, Wash., told The Post then.

End quote

I went to bed before the final results of the election were announced; I was sure that Hillary had won. The next morning I was completely and totally shocked to hear that “bat crap crazy Trump” had somehow won.

What happened? The first news reports hinted that the Russians were somehow involved.
